Ethiopia: The Government forced people to demonstrate in Amhara region on Sunday [and if you didn’t participate you could be fined 500 birr]

The truth shall set you free, but the demonstrations on behalf of the government in Amhara region on Sunday the 29th June. That didn’t come without the regional state and government entities ordering people to the streets. The regional government was even prepared with sanctioning and fining people 500 birr to not partake in the demonstration. That’s telling of how they operate and how the Prosperity Party ensure “loyalty” and “support” in the population, by force and intimidation.

The state media has shown fantastic pictures and banners of people supporting the government measures in the Amhara region. However, that cannot be the true picture or the whole extent. When the state are ordering people to the streets and possibly fining the ones for not participating in it. That says more about the fear and intimidation, as the state doesn’t have the trust or the support of which it needs to push for these incentives.

The Prime Minister and the Federal Government are lacking support here. The Regional Government isn’t what it once was. The Amhara Region surely been hit severely by the conflict and the “operation tsunami” and other “final operations” to end Fano. A Fano that is more structured and more operational, which the ENDF struggles to finish off completely. That’s why the state needs to look popular and galvanized.

Nevertheless, the truth is more sinister and shows the heart of the state. When they have to force and make demonstrations mandatory. That isn’t a sign of strength, but of weakness. As they cannot get the people to walk on their feet and behind the banner of the state. No, they need to push them there and sanction them, if they don’t show up. That’s a telling tale… and we can all see it coming.

This is what Abiy has achieved to do and this is what his reign has produced. The “million” march and demonstrations across the region is pointless. When everyone partaking in it is forced to be there and could be fined if they didn’t show up. That’s it and everyone should know about this. Peace.

Opinion: Kiwanuka Briton won’t get passed Mzee

My mentor was given forms on Saturday. Why can’t I get mine? Does it mean they printed only one form?” – Kiwanuka Briton (30.06.2025).

JUST IN: Kiwanuka Briton from Jinja, who attempted to collect nomination forms for the NRM National Party Chairman position, was turned away by the NRM EC Chairman Dr Tanga Odoi, He was advised to return on Friday when the forms are ready” (KSTV Uganda, 30.06.2025).

A decade later and the sins of the past is repeated. Just like the then Prime Minister and Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Amama Mbabazi was seeking the NRM Electoral Commission and the approval of the party to run as Chairperson and President in July 2015. Which later ended up in Mbabazi running as an Independent Candidate under the banner of Go Forward and in the opposition coalition of The Democratic Alliance (TDA) in the General Elections of 2016.

That lesson should have been learned. The cost the price of paying for the forms are for nothing. Briton is better spending it on side-dishes, booze and a possibly investing crypto-currency. Than spending it on nomination fees for the National Chairman, which cost him 20 million shillings already. That’s a wasted burden and cost, which the man could have saved himself from. Those money was better burned on the streets and never touched. Because those forms and the idea of challenging Museveni is futile.

Anyone with who has a little common sense and knows the game knows this. The hurry to transition or change from Museveni is redundant. The old man cannot even retire so his son can carry on after him. The delusion is real and someone has kick some knowledge into the man.

Kiwanuka Briton is practically asking an old man who has sat in the chair and been the chairman since inception of the party and the movement to step aside. It is a brave action and a foolish enterprise. As Museveni has sat on the throne since the 1980s and won’t budge. We all know that Briton has to accept an offer he cannot refuse. That’s all that is given and the NRM EC has hopefully bought enough time to give him that offer.

Briton should have studied Mbabazi in 2015 and 2016. He can see the writing on the wall. There is a reason why no other has gotten the shot or the capabilities to takeover from Museveni. Everything has been done by default and the party has just ring-fenced it for him. We all know this…

So, why even bother? This is a waste of time, shillings and resources. Briton is better of doing nothing. His better just sitting back, drinking his tea and chilling somewhere. That’s what he should do. Because doing this, well, nothing good will come out of this. Unless, he accepts whatever the party and the people surrounding him offers him. Since there is no chance that he will ever really challenge Museveni or be his equal. That’s impossible…

Kiwanuka Briton should have known better, but no one enlighten him. If they did, he didn’t listen and went ahead anyway. This could either be his end or his gain. Time will tell, but this wasn’t clever… but a gamble with his future and whatever ambition he carries within his soul. Peace.
