United Kingdom: First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson (13.10.2020)

In Juba on Friday, the Cabinet decision to change currency came to the public. This is happening after several of attempts and changes in Ministry of Finance. However, none has lasted or made a difference. Therefore, the Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU) have decided to drop the South Sudanese Pound and create another one.
Nevertheless, economics and financial policies aren’t that simple. There are some key components missing to create the balances in order. First, the state can and is allowed to change their currencies. That is up to the sovereign. Is that advisable?
Most like not, because you have to build a foundation and have the balance sheets in order. The grander public got to understand the change. The markets have to invest in the futures of the currency and it has to trusted.
It can be a financial trick, a juxtaposition to just to get you out of a hurdle. You move from one account to another. But, then again… you get the same value for practically nothing. Maybe, even the currency has no value, as nobody trades on a value that nobody trusts. That is why its key to build trust and monetary policies around what you already have.
Unless, you want a Bond-Note bonanza and erupting inflation out of spiral. Making the pennies and dimes worthless anyway. If that is the trick, the Bank of South Sudan and Ministry of Finance should just go ahead. Instead of securing the measures, the trade policies and the monetary instruments of the Republic.
They are instead re-issuing a new currency. They are dropping the SSP for something else. There have to be a transition period. A time and opportunity to change the currencies. As the time goes for the switch, the public and businesses can go from SSP to whatever it will be. If not, then they are draining the system and emptying the coffers of people. Which in the end, will also ensure there is less money in circulation.
The saga of the SSP will haunt the new currency. Because, this is just changing the name, but not changing the elements. They are taking away the history and the namesake. However, the same lack of trust and monetary instruments are still there. If they had these and ensured the markets and safeguarded the currency. Then the public could have some trust and if there was measures in place. It wouldn’t be necessary to switch and ditch the old one.
This here is a sign of weakness, lack of process and just sudden change. In hope that this is the remedy. This sort of action is the quick fix and hope it can miraculously save the day. However, it is never that easy. Especially, when your not only building market dynamics, but also on trust. When you need several of components to work in tandem and be at each others side. If they are not. Then one will beat the other and in the end the citizen or consumer is the loser. As the currency gets devalued since the authorities cannot contain the brutal assessment of currency.
This is short-sighted. It really is and the next one will have the same remaining issues. Your folding one chapter, but your just starting where the other left off. It will be just a matter of time before this stinks too. Since, the same fella’s are running the shop and their game is to earn a quick buck. Peace.

It is a reason why the European Union, the bureaucracy in Brussels shouldn’t trust London, Her Majesty’s Government and Whitehall. The 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson shows how devious he is this week. His using all terms and all ways to vilify the EU. Instead of looking into his own actions.
The EU didn’t force the Tories to sign and ratify the Withdrawal Agreement, an agreement the Tories in combination with the EU Negotiation Team made together. Which was revised between the Theresa May government, where Boris was the Foreign Secretary and his own term before passing it. This was supposed to be a “oven ready” deal.
The Tories, the ERG and all the Brexiteers has promised a simple and easy transition from being a member state to become “fully independent”. Alas, these folks have forgotten even though they are residing on a island. They are not living in a vacuum. These folks are acting like they can decide and that there is no implication from the other party. They are expecting the EU just to accept similar terms from a “third-country”. While the EU Members are supposed to swallow the bitter pill. That is how unserious and dumb the London regime is.
Boris is really acting a fool, when he late last year Accepted the WA, which was within boundaries, having safeguards and clauses to secure the integrity of the United Kingdom and the Good Friday Agreement, as the EU wouldn’t want to jeopardize the economy or the free movement from Ireland to Northern Ireland. That is just an simple argument at this point.
Still, the Tories is okay with doing something illegal, breaching international law and getting disrepute worldwide. They are willing to risk further trade-deals with all outside countries. Inflict even more damage, than what a no-deal would initially do and renegotiate after World Trade Organization standards. The UK really wanting to be a pariah state in Europe. Ensuring they are left behind and all on their own behalf. Becoming independent from the EU, but at a huge price.
Boris is playing with fire and won’t feel the consequences until the fire is put out. Then the investigations can say what has been damaged and estimates to rebuild. The UK are willing to risk all and also its reputation. There will be few who are willing to trust and even make arrangements. As they see months ahead of time. The UK might vilify and amplify own interests over the agreed upon agreement. That is how it seems now.
Yes, the UK could have been in another situation, if it never accepted the WA, but it did. They voted it in and ratified it. They negotiated the deal and the stipulated articles are written there after. Where it has safeguards and securities for both parties. This is known, but Boris wants to play out that its risking own “integrity” and “independence”. If it was so, why did you push it through Parliament and Prorogued it before voting it through?
Boris hasn’t really planned this. This will be a “victory” for the Brexiteers, but it will be a false one. It will feel like they won something to ditch the WA, but they are also a lost island. With every measure they will become alone. They are feeding the rest of Europe with disgust, because why should they trust London and the government there? When they can months apart, ditch agreed upon deal? Why should anyone trust Johnson and his cabinet?
The Tories are proving what they are capable of off. Using the Northern Ireland for their own games, instead of serving the needs of Belfast. They are willing to risk all for a quick and brief victory. Since, the cost afterwards will be enormous. The Tories will never state that, but the price of doing it will be big. The damage is epic and it was self-destruction, all made with the intent of delivering a no-deal Brexit. A Hard Brexit, which wasn’t made for the general public, but for a self-serving elite. Peace.

It doesn’t matter if there is unlawful practices with land-grabbing. If there is illegal procurements in the Counties. Funds goes missing. It doesn’t matter if one or two Eurobond scandals appear. Neither, if the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal happened twice. There is always some fishy non-existent corporations who needs a handout, who just happened to be owned by the elite and associates of the state.
This is just how things go. If there is procurement scandal within the Ministry of Health. Buying some phony units, which was supposed to mobile and easy access for the counties. These containers never came there. That isn’t an ancient scandal, but just mere years ago.
In all the years of Uhuru Kenyatta. There been open bazaar of greed. Where all cabinet secretaries, all departments and government enterprises have consistent of scandals and sudden loss of funds. There isn’t much space between or another get exposed. As the daily routine of skimming the state to enriching yourself. Is the sort of protocol for the high ranking officials.
Just like you can create false narratives to import maize and sugar. Hide them, import expensive maize from Mexico and call it a day. That is just what they do. Just like NYS scandal was to create phony companies to give handouts to loyal cadres.
So, when it happen that the news broke of stealing PPE, donations from Jack Ma and that it was sold in secret to Tanzania. You just know someone ate that money. In the middle of an pandemic. Someone still saw it fit to sell needed equipment. Saw the need to enrich themselves on necessary tools to battle the Coronavirus. That is the levels of thieving.
It is not strange that it happens. As they could hide UNGA and toy around the shortage. They could play the public a curse for sugar. The state could suddenly waste vast amounts of loaned funds in the Eurobond 1 and 2. They could create a white elephant with the Standard Gauge Railway and who knows, when it will make a honest profit.
That they stole and sold the donated PPE and COVID-19 equipment. Just show to what extent the officials and civil servants are used too. It is all “our turn to eat”. There is a self-serving appetite for a quick buck. Without consideration of the implications or the set-backs for doing so. It is not like gloves, face-masks and tests-kits are easily accessible for everyone. It costs and the short term gains will soon be spoilt. As the markets for these things aren’t slowing down until the pandemic is under control.
This just shows what sort of thieving there are in the state of Kenya. Everything is up for grabs. It is just about using your opportunity and find the perfect scheme. The state officials paying the right guys, give the sort of middle-men the thumbs up and then monies keep rolling in. Who cares at what cost and what aftermath. They enriched themselves, as people are struggling, the state lacks PPE and test-kits. But who cares, as long as the men of honour gets their well deserved pay-off.
The President knows this and is making his fortunes. The thieving is fine and dandy. He has let his cabinet secretaries and appointed committee leaders off the hook before. He will do it again. There is no permanent damage over this. It will be another scandal and others who are under fire. But he isn’t touched, even as all his minions are doing it and they allowed by him. If they wasn’t allowed, the authorities would be on their doors and be knocking.
Kenyatta knows, but he cannot hide. His allowing the theft and grand corruption. That is his legacy. Peace.
