Mali: Is Col. Goïta working to become a President for Life?

Colonel Assimi Goïta, the Transitional Head of State and interim President is now bound to be the ruler until 2027. That’s after two coups in 2020 and in 2021. He has sealed total control of power and now is the sole proprietor as the Commander-in-Chief and as Head of State.

The current ruler has already had two times postponed elections and fixed dates for ending of the interim or transitional powers. Now the current Inter-Malian Dialogue is a way of legitimizing the junta and it’s reign in Bamako. The usage of military insurgency and instability in certain regions of the Republic. Therefore, the Colonel will always have a reason to prolong and stay in power.

Goïta outwitted people in 2020 and 2021, but now the gig is sort of showing. His not different from other rulers or people who get high on power. His using the military power and the will of the guns to stay in office.

The colonel has tasted the sweet fruits of the Presidency and the abilities of being in power. He now runs supreme and doesn’t want to give that up. Goïta will find new excuses and reasons to stay in office.

We know he is now coming as the saviour and the hero of the Nation. As the dialogue is giving him either two more years or five more years. They are also speaking of supporting his candidacy for President after the transitional period. A Transitional Period that has lasted for three years and will be possible extended to 2027. That’s giving him plenty of years of consolidating power and expand his control of the state. Therefore, the longer he stays… the more likely his to never leave.

The most expected thing now is a Life Presidency or until someone else topples him by a coup d’etat. He won’t step down for a civilian or risk losing office. Goïta now see the pieces of silver and the prestige of being the head of state. He now has a say and can order changes on a national level. That’s something he won’t give to others or willingly give away. Therefore, he will stay in office and disregard the will of the people.

A man who took the power by the gun and used two coups to get his way. He will not leave peacefully and will use all means to be legitimized. That’s what is happening in Bamako.

His a Commander who became a Head of State. Col. Goïta is slowly working on his Presidency for Life. Peace.

Sudan: Darfur is burning and the world shouldn’t look away…

Ministry of Health in North Darfur:

More than 250 people died and were injured within two days as a result of renewed clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, in light of the fragility of the health system in the state” (Ministry of Health in North Darfur, 14.05.2024).

As a result of clashes on Sunday, May 12, 2024, between the SAF and the RSF and the armed movements, 9 civilians were killed and 34 were injured in the Abu Shouk camp for the displaced. Danat fell in civilian homes. Most of the dead and wounded were children. DVS calls on the parties to the conflict to stop the war and open humanitarian bitterness. It extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims” (Darfur Victims Support, 13.05.2024).

UPDATE: Brutal clash between Sudanese forces and RSF near Al-Fashir, Darfur on Sunday. According to UNOCHA Sudan death toll reaches 27 with 130 injured. RSF’s encirclement of the capital heightens concern for its 2.3 million inhabitants” (The Daily Search, 13.05.2024).

There reports of countless of villages that has been burned down by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) or the Janjaweed in the Darfur region of Sudan. The brutal wars of the Generals has made things worse in the Darfur Region. As there are new coalitions of rebels to counter-act the RSF means in the region. Therefore, things are changing, but not for the better for now.

Right now the RSF (Janjaweed) is going back to their old-school way of genocidal attacks on the Darfur region. They are using violence and skirmishes to destroy people’s lives. The RSF (Janjaweed) are fighting for its relevance and to show power over a region it has haunted for decades. The Janjaweed have destroyed and depleted the region in favour of the dictatorial regime of Khartoum. Therefore, we have seen and heard the tragic histories before. Now it is repeating itself.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) aren’t heroes or saviours either. They are just as brutal and insincere here. That’s why local rebel groups are stepping up to safeguard their own territories of the Darfur region. This is why the RSF is blaming the other militia’s for the war-crimes committed of late.

We should be worried about the internally displaced people and the insecurity the Janjaweed are now creating in Darfur. They are doing this to cripple and weakening the region. Just so they can swoop in and take all control. That’s what they are up too and wants to salvage the hurt by doing so. They are continuing its vicious fights for personal gains and benefits. This is the Gen. Hemeti’s orders and wishes for Darfur. The warlord who wants to destroy and rebuild things in his own vision.

The conflict is spiralling and innocent civilians are caught in the cross-fire. This is a breathing ground for danger and loss of lives. It is just sad that history is repeating itself. The Janjaweed continues to haunt and merciless kill citizens in the name of gaining power. Peace.

Tchad: The Procedural “Victory” of Gen. Kaka was proclaimed…

Mahamat Kaka declared president, his rival calls for demonstrations. Mahamat Kaka Idriss Déby was officially declared president of Chad this Thursday, following the May 6 presidential election. However, its main opponent, Succès Masra, rejects the results and calls for a protest demonstration tomorrow. He claims to be the real winner of the vote and accuses the authorities of fraud” (AES Info. 10.05.2024).

I wrote a piece back in March 2024, because the actions of N’Djamena was so obvious. The naked eye could read the room and see the future. That’s why I will reference first my own thoughts from months ago before discussing the actions of the state this week.

The 6th May Election is already fixed and we have the tandem of competition. That being Mouvement Patriotique du Salut (MPS) Gen. Mahamat “Kaka” Idriss Deby Itno, the interim President going into his “first” legitimate term. The one that will be his main challenger is appointed Prime Minister Succès Masra from the opposition party (Les Transformateurs) or the Transformers Party. He was appointed recently and made Kinshasa Accords that gave him a reason to return after being in exile. Not long after returning he was appointed to be come the PM” (Minbane, 04.03.2024).

In the nation of Thousands of Generals, the Junta and the Dynasty would never risk to lose to anyone. There are speculations that the results of the 6th May of 2024 polls was rigged. The prolonged silence and lack of publication of results isn’t helping the government. That only undermines the election and the integrity of it. Alas, this could be a pre-fix and make the “results believable”.

Yes, Gen. Kaka won, but not by a huge majority. To make it look sincere, but we all have questions. Because, is he really this popular and would he have “won” without the authorities on his side?

Masra can have a case, but his Kinshasa Accords and accepting the Office of the Prime Minister. Made him a tool for legitimacy and a way of giving the junta some popular support. He gave them a name and a face, which wasn’t just the clan and the commanders of the state. Gen. Kaka can be happy that he got Masra for cheap and he made the campaigning believable.

It is like I feared and he played the game to a T. This is the sort of play to outsmart and outplay the opposition. Giving them a bone and hoping they believe the words. It is only words and not law. Therefore, the betrayal can happen at night and silence the ones who he really fears. That’s why Dillo was assassinated ahead of the polls. They knew they could trick Masra and he was a willing participant. Nevertheless, the election moved on and he played his part.

Now the transition from father to son is fulfilled. The authorities and the state has geared it all in. The apparatus is in motion and the moment of “swearing-in” will seal it all. That’s when the Deby’s continues there power in Tchad.

Gen. Kaka was made to “win” and there was no surprises here. Masra was bound to “loose” and anyone else on the ballot only gave the General some weight. They all where just puppets for the game and he would stop them regardless.

It is tragic and to see this happening yet again. The will of the people doesn’t matter when the authorities and the state has their anointed one. The one that they will ensure his reign. That’s because the state is personalized and not institutionalized.

Gen Kaka couldn’t loose and it shows… the way the mechanisms went ahead and the silence until the announcement. It just shows how they had to alter and work on overtime to make a believable results. However, we know the game and it is rigged for the one and only. Peace.
