Times like these is a warning. When the likes of Phillip Omon aka Comedian Feel Free has not only started a rebellion movement, but an armed organization to change things in the Republic. His the Commander-in-Chief of the Peoples Freedom Movement (PFM).
The movement and rebellion is only going back to late April 2024. A comedian that has been creating headline for years. A man who was known are now not making jokes or hiring artists to his company anymore. No, his using guns and being fought by the South Sudan People’s Defence Force (SSPDF).
That’s a sign of how dire things are… when the Comedian doesn’t create a political party or a CSO to push in one direction or another. No, he goes to the bush and take arms against the government. That isn’t a sign of strength, but how things are lingering in the republic. As a man only see one choice and that’s to take arms and try to forge order by lethal conquest. That’s not building institution, but individuals taking power by arms.
Philipp Omon shouldn’t see the need to take arms and use weaponry for his cause. The government and institutions should lead him in other ways. Nevertheless, this is a sign of where the state has failed its citizens. When a guy like this becomes a rebel and start fighting on the battlefield. This shouldn’t be the case, but it is.
A comedian have become a rebel and warlord. Sooner or later he will make himself a general and say he runs parts of the Eastern Equatoria State. We know the army is now going after him and his rebellion. However, this is all a proof of how the government and the authorities have failed.
A comedian shouldn’t need to take these steps. He shouldn’t have the need or see it fit to start an armed rebellion. That just shows how J-1 and the leadership of Juba has failed. This is on them and the years of transition. They could have created opportunities and mechanisms where this wouldn’t be needed. It is just repeating an evil cycle and usage of weaponry to settle grievances, which is only creating more instability and cause havoc.
Some might laugh and giggle out of it, but this is a template of what is wrong. A man shouldn’t have the need or see it as the only way out. However, that’s where we are and it’s tragic.
A man calling himself “feel free” is becoming a rebel and warlord just to make a difference. That shouldn’t be the case, but it is. The administration and leadership of the Republic should feel dismayed and work tirelessly to end this practice. Also show the difference between their time and our time. As there… are a need for contrast and hope for the future.
As this is just a repetition of history and the republic deserves so much better. Peace.

“Today is a new chapter for Ethiopia” – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali (01.06.2024)
Maybe if this had been in 2018 and when there was hope in the air. Then the idea of this and the acts of the Federal Government would have been believable. However, the years of the Prosperity Party, the wars and the conflicts of the nation. It is unbelievable to be sincere or honest.
Prime Minister Abiy wants to speak big game, but it won’t be honest. No, he wants a trick and headlines. A man with the Ministry of Peace, but has constant internal conflict. A man who speaks peace, but orders wars. His a warlord who desperately wants to be a peaceful diplomat. We all know the gist by now and the citizens are feeling the pendulum swinging too.
There isn’t any hope on the horizon. Neither is there any sort of consensus or sort of proper dialogue to be held. We know the talks will be to see who participate and who can be bargained with. That’s the deal here…
Abiy is about consolidating power by any means. The National Dialogue Commission will have as much use as the Ministry of Peace. They are both nice in spirit, but in reality it’s the devil. The innocent is already butchered and the ideals of sincerity is long gone. Abiy won’t serve that and take people in with open arms. No, he wants to figure out ways to outsmart and snare people into a trap. That’s what he does… and get them under his spell.
There is hard to believe in the idea or belief of the dialogue when there is warfare going on. It isn’t like there will be talks with the enemies of the state in Oromia or in Amhara regions. Neither will certain opposition parties partake or even try to participate. That’s when you know it isn’t built for the promise it’s pledges. When it lack substantial parties and stakeholders… it will only be there to create headlines and a make-belief.
The mirage of Abiy shouldn’t be sold. The Warlord won’t bring a prosperous peace. No, he won’t make it happen. He can’t stop touching things and interfere. It is bound to be a failure and that’s on the accord of him wanting so badly to be the little King. The next emperor and high priest of the nation. That’s who Abiy wants to be and the crown he wants to wear so badly.
This dialogue will lead to nowhere. There is nowhere to go and it’s bound to crash and burn. It will deliver a report and be based on the epic storytelling of the PM. However, it won’t be real or do what it said it did. There is to may component missing and everyone can see that. Peace.

“The Council of Ministers has approved a proclamation allowing formerly banned organizations to re-register as political parties. Pending approval from the House of Peoples’ Representatives, this amendment could pave the way for political groups like the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) to attain legal party status once again. The Prime Minister’s office revealed that the existing Electoral Proclamation lacked provisions for groups involved in past non-peaceful activities to transition into legitimate political entities. However, the proposed amendments would offer a framework for such groups, emphasizing the abandonment of violence and a commitment to peaceful operations. Following unanimous endorsement from the Council of Ministers, the draft has been sent to parliament for approval” (Addis Standard, 31.05.2024).
On the 5th May 2021 the Council of Ministers approved a resolution that the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) would be designated as a “terrorist organization”. That’s why today is a big deal, as the Council of Ministers are on the 31st May 2024 is opening up for the TPLF to get re-registered as a political party. After over three years of being seen as so, but after the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement, the TPLF and the Federal Government had to work together. So, it couldn’t have worked to be an illegal organization for much longer.
The Prosperity Party and the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali has made amends with the TPLF. The recent talks have been favourable and they have been reassured. The TIRA is delivering and following the agreements, which is what Abiy wants too.
We knew this was all political and not sincere, as stated by Redwan Hussain last year:
“As you are all aware, the TPLF was labelled as a terrorist organisation not because of ideological differences, a political programme, the TPLF’s possession of weapons, or the fact that it held elections. The TPLF was labelled a terrorist organisation not merely to make our defence forces feel more at ease in continuing the fight. To continue the war, we do not need to label TPLF as a terrorist group; we can already declare war on the basis of the constitution and military establishment’s decree. The defence is now fighting many armed groups in several parts of Ethiopia, including Gambella and Benshangul. However we have not labelled these armed groups as terrorist. Until recently, Only OLF and TPLF have been labelled as terrorists. For some time after the war began, the TPLF was not labelled as a terrorist organisation. The fundamental purpose for labelling the TPLF as terrorist is to control and weaken TPLF’s political and economic power, as well as provide better capacity to our defence and federal police” –Minister, National Security Advisor to the PM of FDRE, Redwan Hussein (22.03.2023).
It is compelling that the PP is changing heart now. That’s to legitimize the TPLF. For the ones that wanted it defunct and annihilate it. Certainly they have lost, but the TPLF is weakened after the war in the North. They are on talking terms, but not a powerhouse, which they were before. The Tigray region isn’t in a good place yet. The war-torn region is still hurting and the people are far from in a good place. Therefore, the re-registration is a nice gesture for the political elite, but it isn’t saving all the victims of the war.
The Tigray region needs more than a political revival of the TPLF. It needs to be genuinely a part of the Federation and gets it’s direct support. The FDRE have disassociated and worked against the Tigray region even before the war. That’s because the TPLF didn’t want to disband and be a part of the Prosperity Party after the ending of the EPRDF coalition. Therefore, the reality now is that Abiy has leverage and isn’t worried about them anymore. This is why he can give them “life” again.
That’s how I see it. The war was about consolidating power and beating an enemy who wouldn’t want to bend the knee. Now they are doing so and following the direct decrees of Addis Ababa. That’s why Mekelle get some fanfare, but they are not getting ready to party just yet. No, they have to much work and struggles to overcome. Peace.

“Additionally, Peter Elwelu, former Deputy Chief of the Ugandan Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), is designated due to his involvement in gross violations of human rights. Specifically, Peter Elwelu was involved, while commanding UPDF forces, in extrajudicial killings that were committed by members of the UPDF. As a result of these actions, the designated Ugandan officials are generally ineligible for entry into the United States” (U.S. Department of State – ‘Designation of Ugandan Public Officials’ 30.05.2024).
Days and nights has gone without any sort of condemnation or any sort punitive action against the army commander who took part and was essential to the destruction and massacre in Kasese in 2016. A man who has gotten promoted, elevated and become an instrument of the government.
That’s who Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu is, he is now an UPDF MP and Senior Presidential Advisor. He has gotten higher ranks and become a voice within the government. That is all because of his loyalty and acts for the authorities. The army commander was willing to kill, destroy and annihilate if he needed. That’s why he burned the Royal Palace in Kasese and ordered the killing of anyone who was there. Therefore, the amounts of death and the massive massacre will forever linger on his name.
Lt. Gen. Elwelu is a bloodthirsty man. It is well deserved that his designated with sanctions by the U.S. The others that was sanctioned today was high ranking officials in connections to the Mabaati scandal. However, I want to focus on Elwelu, as he has usually tended to get promoted and positive vibes. Even when he has used force and been a vile human being.
It is nice to see Lt. Gen. Elwelu getting sanctioned, but will it matter? Would he travel and visit the United States of America?
It is a nice sign and a signal to send. Nevertheless, who ordered the killings and the massacre itself? Not like Lt. Gen. Elwelu acted in a vacuum and did it all on his own. There was someone above him and who outranked him to give him the “word”. Therefore, I wonder if there is someone else who should be touched for the same vicious acts in Kasese.
Yes, it is nice to see the U.S. government act upon the human rights violations and crimes against humanity, but why aren’t it encircling anyone who took part of the Kasese massacre and burning of the Royal Palace? Why only him and not the men above him? Because there have to others who ordered and knew.
I don’t think Brig. Elwelu at the time acted alone and on a solo-mission in Kasese. He wouldn’t be powerful enough or have enough sway to do so. Then he would have suffered. However, he did deliver and became synonyms with the murders of Kasese. That will be who he is and define him for life.
That the U.S. has sanctioned him… is fine and dandy, but will they do that to more people who was a part and who was as vital as Brig. Elwelu…. Peace.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Kenyan government are now strongly allied with the United States of America. The White House and the Biden Administration have vouched for and are now aligning itself with Kenya. That means the leadership of Nairobi has favours and being cherry-picked by the Americans.
In some eyes, that is seen as a good thing. As the U.S. can offer vital support and financial backing, which can be favourable in the long run. The Kenyan government is already serving American interests in conflicts. That being in Haiti and elsewhere. This is why Kenyan Police Officers are now deployed in Haiti.
The choice that Ruto has made is a financial one. He is selling his sovereignty and his foreign policy on the day-to-day and allies needs across the globe. That’s why Kenyan forces will fight in Somalia and possibly in Yemen. Anywhere where the U.S. cannot send in their own troops, but can train and arm. Just like the U.S. has used other allies to fight the “dirty” wars, which it has had in the fight against “terror”.
That is now the place of Ruto. His the proxy army of the U.S. and he will enjoy the perks. The soldiers and army commanders are the ones that will suffer. The law enforcement and the security organizations of Kenya will be tested. They will be used and stretched as a servant of the U.S. Interest. That’s why they could be deployed to Yemen after having sent people to Haiti. It is just fitting for the U.S. to pay for Kenyan services. Just like the U.S. import cheap Kenyan roses, they now can export Kenyan soldiers to fight their wars as their mercenaries too. While the leaders of Nairobi will cheer on, as they are earning foreign currency doing so.
That’s the game here. The Kenyans are becoming buddies with the West and the U.S. by fighting for them as proxy. They are being the hired guns and the ones who is fighting in their stead. Because, the U.S. cannot be on the ground or waste trained personnel in every conflict. Neither is it political beneficial or a given to do so. That’s why other has to partake in the battles and in the wars to settle the grievances of Washington D.C. and whose better than calling upon Nairobi to get things done.
That’s how this is looking and it isn’t a good look for Ruto. The President and his allies are looking like stooges and puppets of Biden. The “Yes-Men” and happy go-lucky brigade. A government willing to trade the army and the security organization to others. Just so you can get some additional foreign currency and hopefully get a bigger plate to eat. That’s the gig here….
This isn’t a good look for Ruto. He seems to be willing to sell out his integrity and the power of the sovereign. Just so he get a scheme and proper funding for prestige projects. That’s what it looks like, but the cost of this will be a burden on the soldiers and the ones who is deployed to fight. They are the ones risking their lives and livelihood. So, that Ruto can bash in glory and be a token proxy of the U.S. That’s what I see and it’s a grim picture.
Just imagine Kenyan soldiers fighting in Yemen. They will die on the shores of the Red Sea and practically for nothing. Peace.
