The National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the Government of Uganda is proving that its afraid of its citizens. The ones in charge are worried and striking hard against any dissidents. They are creating legal jeopardy over using their voices. Citizens are being detained and preventatively arrested for possibly participating in protests or demonstrations. People are detained for partaking in forums and abroad conferences. That’s what is going on.
The Judiciary, the Authorities and the Security Organizations are all working in tandem to silence critics. The Police and all other legal entities with law enforcement are on the case. If it is the ISO/CMI or whatever. They are there… the military too. There is nothing left to hide and people are paying huge fines for bails to be released. People are picked up before they even attend a demonstration. That’s how the state operates and they show its viciousness.
We know the state has operated “drones” the modern Panda Gari’s and we do know the state has “safe houses” or Argentina Houses to keep people indefinitely detained without court orders and where torture is common practice. That has been a part of NRM regime since its inception. It took over from the predecessors and never stopped doing it. Meanwhile, we are surprised to be shocked and in awe of this. As the NRM has co-operated and gotten training by North Koreans for a reason. That wasn’t for cooking potatoes or making kimchi. No, it was to extend their military brutality on civilians and its well known.
The state is afraid when the FDC Katonga Group had 36 people cleared to travel to Kisumu, Kenya for a week of leadership training. However, one return they were intercepted and is now charged with “terrorism” or such serious charges. This is what it does…
While the NRM itself brands itself in military fatigue and uses the army as a prop in their leadership academy of Kyankwanzi. They are using the military and the army as they see fit. The guns are everywhere and usage of military is fine and dandy. The President is either in a suit or in military fatigue himself. That’s what they do… and we are supposed to be shocked when MPs and other elites connected to the party wears military gear. Alas, if the Opposition wears a red beret, they can be detained indefinitely and we could see it coming.
This state of affairs are screaming and shouting at its citizens. If it isn’t doing that… then it is saying “foreigners” or “gays” are sponsoring their activities. While the state is openly saying they are funded by foreign donors and been so for ages. It is like they can eat money from the international community, but it is wrong if others does so. Especially, if it is someone who dares to question the state or ask for accountability. All battles against corruption becomes automatically a battle for the sovereign and the nations soul. Is the soul thieving then or state capture? Because that’s how this look like by the minute…
A government shouldn’t act like this towards its citizens who are only working for their best interests and wanting a righteous government. The citizens are allowed to demonstrate and also allowed to get leadership training. They are just targeting them… by the their affiliation or by who they are associated with, which isn’t the President or his party. Because, if these people was part of the Yellow Brigade. They would be safe and not sorry. These people would be viral and be writing articles for New vision. That’s why … we know the game it and its getting boring.
This is alienating a generation. The state is attacking its citizens and creating felons without merit. It is making people criminal for doing their duties as citizens. That’s what is going on and it isn’t a good look. This is destroying the reputation and the image of the Republic. The fault of that isn’t on the citizens, but on the government and authorities that is authorized to act this way. Peace.

There are many questions remaining after the announcement this week that the SPLM/A (IO) has left the Tumaini Initiative or the Nairobi Peace Talks. There are no bigger things at stake and you can wonder where this leaving the SPLM (IO) in the grand scheme of things.
The SPLM/A-(IO) is one of the key parties or organizations in the R-ARCSS. It is also a vital part of the RTGoNU. Which is the government and has the ability to partake and be part of the government bodies in which the peace agreement are designating it too.
That’s why this is more than just a mere stand-off between well known principals of President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Dr. Riek Machar. Those two has fought it out before and done their “war-cries” as a measure to gain territory and even consolidate more power. Therefore, this time might not be any different.
We can wonder if Machar thinks he can re-negotiate himself into a better position ahead of the polls in December 2024. That would be an interesting narrative, but I am not sure that is the case. As they are now a major party and has a huge say. While SPLM-IG has the most and is the biggest beneficiary, but there are others who has a say too. That’s maybe the SSOMA and other Non-Signatory Groups, which did participate in the Rome talks. Therefore, the power play and the issues are as simple as feeling outwitted or outsmarted by other “opposition” voices. Alas, that is maybe the case.
Dr. Machar wants to be the next in line. He has wanted for so long to overtake and be the guy that is the successor of the President. To think otherwise is naive and he has been aiming for the throne for so long as I can remember. This guy won’t relent and he has used all the tricks up his sleeve to try to get there.
President Kiir will have more trouble ahead of the polls. Elections that is already on shaky grounds and now the peace talks are less legitimate. That is the will of the IO and Machar. They are making things more hectic and possibly trying to force Kiir to the round-table. However, we don’t know if he will hesitate and try to make amends that quickly.
The Tumaini Initiative is supposed to be within the frameworks of the R-ARCSS and be a continuation of the other agreements in association with that. When the IO is leaving. It is practically leaving both and becoming an outsider. You can wonder if they are planning to leave government, the national assembly and everything else. If they do… then the water is boiling and the red-flags are up. It isn’t just an symbolic act or an act of defiance, but a way of stalling all process. In which Kiir has to relent and openly have dialogue with the IO to cease their actions. As that is further escalating things and could jeopardize the fragile peace, which is thin already.
That’s what the matter here… and it is the timing of it too. When the state has planned to extend the R-ARCSS with more time and has an election without the proper institutions or procedures to make it credible. That’s when IO is dipping out and it could be out of fear of the scheme of being totally wiped out in an election. We cannot know…
Regardless of just that… this isn’t a good sign and South Sudan deserves so much better. This is petty play for the titles and being in command. It is all about getting more and more, and hoping other will take less. That’s the gig here and they are playing with fire in the midst of all that. Peace.
