Tchad: Conseil de Commandement Militaire pour le Salute de la Republique (CCMSR) – Communique de Presse (24.06.2025)

“We must stop interfering in the internal politics of other parties. This interference is partly to blame for the electoral violence we witness” (…) “Let everyone operate within their legal mandate — civil society, the Electoral Commission, political parties, and security organs alike. If we each respect our limits, the 2026 elections can be peaceful and credible” – Gen. Kahinda Otafiire (17.06.2025).
This is hard to believe, as we know the drill and what goes down. The military and the authorities are involved in the proceedings. The army and the authorities are monitoring and partaking in the political sphere. We know the state and the government are controlling the affairs. It will only becoming more worse ahead of the polls.
The authorities are already interfering and blocking, they have already besieged the National Unity Platform headquarters for no apparent reason and done so deliberately. They have blocked the party from hold internal elections and youth conferences. So, the word of the General seems pointless. We know the state uses the machinery and the authorities to detain opposition leaders and using force against them.
These sorts of statements from a Minister would have hold more weight in the past. However, we see the vile and the impunity of the state. We have seen how the state has become and that’s why it has amended the UPDF act just to ensure civilians can be tried in General Court Martial. Making practically everyone parts of the army and using military law on civilians. Therefore, it’s little hope in the Republic for betterment.
This National Resistance Movement (NRM) will not allow or give the same freedoms or liberty to the opposition parties as to itself. The ruling regime won’t allow the opposition parties to meet, campaign or be able to build their parties. Heck, we know it’s even problematic to open party offices up-country. Therefore, we just know how bad the political landscape is, unless you are yellow and bless by His Excellency.
Otafiire can act like we are all fools, and we believe him. Nevertheless, we know the authorities, the army and others will be implicated in the usage of force against unarmed civilians partaking in the proceedings. The NRM knows this, and we all can see it coming. The army is on speed-dial and will show up. The same with the various security organizations who suddenly appearing and using brutality to silence dissent. Nevertheless, we are supposed to believe the Minister has a say or can stop the interference. Which has been broad and wider grip on the opposition.
We know it will become more hectic, brutal and vicious as time goes by. Sooner or later, the drones will be more rampant. We will see more bystanders hit by bullets. There will be lethal action and extra judicial killings. People will be detained, kidnapped, in safe-houses and using mass-arrest to stop the opposition from working. Therefore, the words of Otafiire are pointless.
I don’t believe him or the government he represents. The acts of this government over the years. Only shows pain and suffering. Until the state acts differently, I won’t relent and believe their words. Peace.
