Mali: Colonel Assimi Goïta has survived a coup attempt

Still no official confirmation of the wave of arrests of senior army officials, including Abass Dembélé and Nema Sagara, for an alleged attempt at “destabilization.” In the latest message posted on its social media, the Malian Presidency specifies that: “The President of the Transition, H.E. Army General Assimi GOÏTA, Head of State, presided over the traditional monthly flag-raising ceremony at the Koulouba Palace this Monday. The ceremony saw the massive presence of the collaborators of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.”” (Tama Media, 11.08.2025).

A separate source within the army confirmed an “attempt at destabilisation”, adding: “We have gone ahead with the necessary arrests”. Among those arrested was General Abass Dembele, a former governor of the central Mopti region and a respected military officer. “Soldiers came early on Sunday morning (Sunday) to arrest General Abass Dembele in Kati,” on the outskirts of the capital Bamako, a figure close to the officer said” (Ugoma Media, 11.08.2025).

The days of Mali: Colonel Assimi Goïta aren’t easy. His targeted from the inside and the outside. The leverage of power is fickle and mutinies, heck, possible coup attempts can appear out of thin air. The head of state and army commander aren’t ruling on strength, but on wisdom and a little piece of luck. As he has to navigate the treacherous waters and the continuation of staying in power.

Certainly, the arrests of several generals and dozens of soldiers is compelling. After the speculated coup d’etat and assassination attempt over the weekend. Bamako must be filled with rumours and talks of what could have gone down. It just shows what happens when you reside in the midst of warlords and trust guns more than people.

This what happens when you also let people rule by decree and not by the will of the people. That’s when others tries to find a moment of weakness, a moment of sudden peril and strike hard. They try to plan, clandestine missions to overthrow and takeover power from others. Just like the Colonel has done in the past. If someone knows this game, it’s the man who did it himself and done it successfully. The current Head of State knows this and it’s common knowledge too.

That’s why these sorts of attempts will only happen and for a reason. The power vacuum and lack of progress, the lack of integrity and the lack of accountability. The personification of the state and continued hostile takeover. Will just make it worse and ensure the will to overthrow the current leadership. As it is made on a false premise and will cause more uncertainty in the days ahead. Especially, since it isn’t bending to the will of the people or any sort of popular uprising. No, they are just blind-siding everyone with the power of the gun. That’s it and it isn’t even poetic.

It is live by the gun and die by the gun. That’s the memo. This is what sort of regime that is in power and wants to linger there. The colonel has no plan to step down and only buying himself more time to stay in office. He will find any excuse in the book and ensure his longevity. That’s what he will do and everyone should be aware of just that. This is why other people pick up guns and plots against him. Because everyone knows that he intends to stay indefinitely and has no future plans to retire. Therefore, there is only one way out… and we can all see it coming. Peace.

Tchad: Masra became the enemy of the state and now he will suffer for 20 years

The first criminal chamber of the N’Djamena Court of Appeal delivered its verdict on August 9, 2025. Accused of complicity in the Mandakaou conflict, Dr. Succès Masra, a prominent opposition political figure, was sentenced to 20 years of criminal imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of 1 billion FCFA” (Tchad Infos, 09.08.2025).

The news from N’Djamena is just grim. We know now the fate of the Opposition Leader and Party President of the Transformer Party, the former Prime Minister Succès Masra. His now sentenced to 20 years in prison and paying a hefty fine of 1 billion FCFA. That’s the verdict and the dark Saturday evening of the Republci of Tchad.

Succès Masra risked it all returning and signing an agreement with the junta in office. Gen. Kaka used him as a ploy and a stooge. Now his put the nail in his coffin and he has nowhere to hide. The Field Marshal has outmanoeuvred Masra and he will now suffer the consequences. He dared to challenge the military and the ones in power. That’s why his behind bars and an enemy of the state. They just waited to they could capture him and now they can torment him for the next coming years.

It don’t matter if the opposition leader did the things in good fate or not. His faith and belief in a transition was false. Gen. Kaka had no desire to risk losing power and influence. The ones surrounding him and the inner-circle wouldn’t risk losing it. They have held it all and had no intention of letting go.

That’s why Masra has to fall. That’s why the state has to assassinate and kill the ones in its way. That’s what it does… and it was naive of Masra to think he would be able to go free and be allowed to live in liberty.

His now a political prisoner and a prisoner of conscience. That won’t save him, but he will be a living reminder of what is wrong with the rulers and the regime of Tchad. His the sign of what is going wrong and what the ones in power is willing to do. That’s it… Peace.
