A look into Prime Minister Abiy’s “Christmas Message”

Yesterday, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali published a statement called ‘Our decisions are based on long term benefits not shortsighted’. I will look into what his saying and comment on what I see as interesting takes, as the warfare isn’t over in the Tigray region or anywhere else in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Therefore, this text is a pretext for the continued war in Tigray and towards of the rest of enemies of the Prime Minister.

Abiy begins with “”‘National Unity in Diversity’ campaign has achieved its goal by eradicating the TPLF terrorist group from Amhara and Afar regions. The government has given an order to the ENDF to remain at the places it has liberated. We have decided this based on long term benefits rather than being shortsighted. A strategy that will not lead to Ethiopia’s victory will only embolden our enemies; it will be a lifeline to the terrorist groups. A military decision that is shortsighted will only immerse us in a long war with no end” (Abiy, 24.12.2021).

We are now seeing a clear intent of keeping all territory and not leave like the other parties did. This shows the intent of continuing the war. He speaks of victories, but he ended the “Law Enforcement Operation” and was finalizing that in end of November 2020. So, now in late December 2021 his ending another campaign called “National Unity in Diversity”. This just shows how early he proclaims victory and we can wonder how long he will prolong the agony.

Our people know that the problem in the north came as a result of the changes that were being seen. It was after the changes began to be seen that the TPLF started to use its region as a fort to cause problems because it believes in the idea that “the Ethiopia it can’t rule must be destroyed”. In order to avoid the loss of human lives, to avoid damages on properties, to avoid insecurity and strain on the economy, many attempts were made to peacefully resolve the problems. But the TPLF terrorist group could not see a peaceful path but instead was focused on the path of destruction” (Abiy, 24.12.2021).

The Prime Minister does like everyone else in this conflict project it on it’s enemies without any proof and alleged all war-crimes on others. That’s what he has done all along and this here is showing it yet again. It isn’t the TPLF who ordered the war, but the ENDF and allies who was ready to attack the region and encircle it. Therefore, Abiy tries to rewrite this fact and his Amhara allies had move troops, para-military militia and others to invade the Tigray region ahead of November 2020. So, this storyline is the state manufacturing history to benefit itself.

Our army has remained in Tigray for eight months. It has sacrificed itself so that the economic, political and social services could be carried out smoothly. It has tried all its best to facilitate the rehabilitation of infrastructure, reinstating of public services and the accessibility of humanitarian services. While doing this our army was paying the ultimate sacrifice in two ways. First, it undeservedly received a bad name by the enemies and its media supporters’ propaganda. Second, it was backstabbed by the region’s community which was also a victim of propaganda” (Abiy, 24.12.2021).

Here the Prime Minister claims the state has cared for humanitarian assistance and the infrastructure of the Tigray region, alas, we know that is far from the case. The state have blocked humanitarian assistance and has air-striked infrastructure in the region. The ENDF and allies haven’t cared about this and not even tried to make clear corridors for humanitarian assistance to the ones in need. The state has continued blocking of needed assistance and continued blockage of utilities as well. So, it is striking that the PM speaks of propaganda. When his FDRE creates lots of it and here the PM tries to create his own narrative too. While claiming to be the saviour of Tigray while his forces has violated it since early November 2020.

The government is prepared in all battlefronts to face this existential threat which is multifaceted. The place where we can defend our existence and our sovereignty is not only at the ground level battle. There are many other fronts other than the military where we must fight. The decision the government makes is not shortsighted but takes into consideration all battlefronts. Our first objective was to eliminate the terrorist group from Amhara and Afar. And we have achieved this almost one hundred percent. And we have posted our army at strategic locations to oversee the movement of the enemy” (Abiy, 24.12.2021).

If you believes that the Prime Minister cares about peace or talks. Just read these sentences and you know his expecting more warfare. This man doesn’t care about the conflicts or the concern of the war. He will continue the war on all the fronts and he will ensure all of his enemies are silenced. The PM will use his power and office to get rid of the ones standing in his path. That’s why the conflict isn’t only in Tigray or the other regions, which the PM has mentioned, but it is also happening in Oromia where the state has targeted civilians and leaders there. Therefore, we know his going to make the ones standing in his path suffer.

There are many reasons that led us to this conclusion. First, when there is a threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, the ENDF has the constitutional right and responsibility to take measures by moving into Tigray at any time or any moment. Second, we do not wish to enter into the traps that the TPLF and its supporters prepared to accuse the government and the army. The mothers of Tigray must ask the terrorists who have brought all this mayhem upon them and who have forced them to sacrifice their children in vain. Third, Ethiopians have removed this terrorist from their back with a bitter battle. The people of Tigray also have the will and capacity to remove this terrorist through a struggle. Ethiopians and the government are ready to support the people of the region if needed” (Abiy, 24.12.2021).

That the PM speaks of the constitutional order, when his regime didn’t have an issue to postpone and have an illegal sixth year without an election. So, when he uses words like these I question them, as he uses the law to his advantage and his benefits. Just as the state media has demonized the mothers of Tigray and he uses them in his statement too. While his supposed to care for the children of Tigray. The ones his been starving and neglecting through the whole conflict. We are clearly seeing the PM will “free” the region again and we know what that will mean.

The last piece of his statement says this: “Our principle is to ensure Ethiopia’s holistic victory, ensure territorial integrity and sustainable victory of Ethiopia in each of our decisions. From now on the terrorist forces will no more threaten us as they wish. We won’t say they won’t try but as long as we keep our unity Ethiopia will be victorious. Ethiopia’s victory is based not on the weakness of the enemy but on the strength of our unity and collaboration. We must maintain our unity more than ever.”” (Abiy, 24.12.2021).

The unity the PM speaks of …. is a bit far-fetched, when his administration and government works against it. When the PM speaks of unity it seems like a lie. As the PM cannot be sincere, as it is only for his Amhara allies and not the rest of Federal Republic. The Prosperity Party and PM isn’t making things better and the victory isn’t all that.

The unity he speaks of… isn’t what it seems and the people should know that. Just like his ‘medemer’ mission and the terror he has unleashed on the public. That will seemingly not stop and his actions speak of itself. He can use nice words, but the decisions he has made has thwarted all of these words. Therefore, these sorts of statement is only for the blind believers of the PM. Peace.

Ethiopia: Mufti wants fair reporting after the state created a media blackout

December 23/2021/ENA/ The silence of some Western media indicates their unwillingness to report the reality in Ethiopia and their vested interest to rescue the defeated terrorist TPLF, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Briefing the media today, Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Dina Mufti said Ethiopia is dismayed by the usual practices of these media as they do not want to cover the right thing at the right time. He noted that the media outlets did not show any interest in reporting the devastations caused by the TPLF in the Amhara and Afar regions” (Ethiopian News Agency – ‘Some Western Media Unwilling to Report TPLF Defeat, Reality in Ethiopia: Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ 23.12.2021).

The Prosperity Party and the Federal Government feels the tensions with the western hemisphere. They are supposed to be an giddy state, as the Tigray Defence Force (TDF) has strategically retreated from Afar region and Amhara region. Alas, the Tripartite Alliance wants more favourable reporting.

However, that is hard to get when you have blocked access, stopped and shunned the international media houses. For months the state agencies and the Office of the Prime Minister have distorted and dismissed reports from the conflict.

The Addis-Asmara axis now wanted a favourable treatment and be celebrated. Nevertheless, it is hard to give good news, when people are starving, internally displaced and massacres are reported from Oromia to Tigray region. Not like the smoking guns are stopping. Neither is the human rights violations or the crimes against humanity.

So, Mufti who has been operating and helping a government to create a media blackout, communication blackout and stopping information from coming from the front. Now, wants international media to speak nice and kindly about the invasion of Alamata, if not about the Eritrean Defence Forces continued agony in Western Tigray. It is really magical to see this Christmas season.

It is like the deportation, the expelling and the arrests of journalists had effects. Not to talk about enforcing all leaking of military movements on social media, except from the official sources by the last “State of Emergency” had it’s results. Since now the only things coming is from official sources. Therefore, this is their own making.

If you want free and fair reporting, then you open the gates for both favourable and critical reports, alas, the Prosperity Party and it’s allies isn’t accepting that. They just want news that vilifies their enemies and make praises to the overlords for the rest. Since, that is what it wants and not getting.

Mufti must forget cardinal rules and how things work. You follow the money, you follow the tracks of the culprits and then you report. You find shortcomings and also the credible victories. Now, the Federal Government misses out. While the same state hasn’t open the humanitarian blockade or giving way to humanitarian organizations to operate in the regions who are hurt or damaged by the war. Therefore, who will bring the good news? Borkena or Fana? Because everyone else will see through this gibberish. Peace.

Ethiopia: Tigray Center for Information and Communication – Statement on Political Overtures for Peace (23.12.2021)

Ethiopia: The Ethiopian Press Agency is now zombie-fying the TPLF

Today the Ethiopian Press Agency published an article called the ‘The Zombies TPLF’. I wish this was satire or a joke. However, this is a serious state media house and they publish the narratives of the state. This is what the Federal Government see as fitting opinions to publish. If you wonder what the sort of state Ethiopia is and what sort of leadership it has. Just follow what the State House friendly media is publishing these days. They have already published an article sadly calling the mothers of Tigray demonic. Therefore, today’s piece is following this sort of messaging.

The article today starts with: “If tens of thousands of people, today and tomorrow, write about the snake and the terrorist TPLF, if they fight, if they steal poetry, if they draw canvas, if they sculpt bronze statues, if they make political speeches; The issues they raise are not based on cruelty, barbarism, robbery, apostasy, Ethiopian hatred, lies and banditry. Many of the articles I have written about the apostate TPLF over the past three years are a testament to this. Sometimes they force me to ask myself if there is a melody like a song or an article. So that he, like the singer, may pay attention to the message of the ruler; There are no repetitive articles to make the melody stand out” (EPA, 23.12.2021).

There is nothing subtle or meek about it. The state and it’s defenders continues with total projections, which it never deliver any evidence of, but easily claims the Tigray Defence Force (TDF) did all ills. While the state never does anything bad in the conflict, as they are projecting everything on their enemies. That is has been the modus operandi all year and since the start of the warfare in November 2020. Yes, the TDF has done their part, but we know what the Tripartite Alliance have been doing and acted out. Which they are never taking into account. Therefore, the Federal Government and it’s allies should look onto their own soldiers, militia members and such.

The article continues: “A zombie is a terrifying skeleton and a ghost that rises from the grave and sows life to attack people. It is instinctual. The invading forces of Tigre plundered the wealth of the country and Ethiopians; The weapon buried; He regrouped and reorganized the dispersed fighting force; Taking advantage of the government’s ceasefire for humanitarian reasons, it invaded Amhara and Afar, plundering and destroying unprecedented atrocities in human history. In addition to the Maikadra genocide, he committed genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in the Gulf of Aden, Antioch, Wuchale, Galicoma, and so on. He raped children, mothers, and nuns in groups. He raped his wife in front of her husband and children. He rapes his brother. The priesthood was dissolved. He desecrated churches and mosques. He burned the Scriptures, including the Bible and the Koran. Destroyed. He made a hole in the toilet. It has robbed more than 7,000 health and education institutions. Destroyed. He looted and destroyed about 50 factories at Wollo Woldia Magdalena University. Everywhere he went, he even stole personal belongings. Destroyed” (EPA, 23.12.2021).

Here the writer continues the projection, here the state press is now claiming the TPLF is behind the Mai Kadra massacre, which shows what sort of levels of propaganda the state is willing to publish. The Tripartite Alliance are behind this and that was reported last year, as Eritrean soldiers did the massacre and participated in several of others when they started the invasion of the Tigray region in November 2020. We know the EDF have continued with ethnic cleansing and genocidal acts in Tigray region. Therefore, the writer and EPA is now trying to rewrite history and shift blame for everything, as the “Fano”, Eritrean Defence Force (EDF) and Ethiopian National Defence Force (ENDF) have used their force and their armies committing war-crimes, which should be investigated. Now we see the state media is pinning all ills on the TPLF.

In the near end of the article: “A zombie is a person who is resurrected to attack. Tigre’s invading force is this kind of zombie. One is a lot of zombies. It has zombies that are dominant and sublime. It has an intellectual zombie, an economic zombie, a political zombie, a social zombie, a military zombie, a security zombie, a historical zombie, and so on. Nobel laureate and award-winning Paul Krugman of Zombies, the so-called “intellectual zombies”, is denying accountability, logic and truth. Surprisingly, these T-TPLF scholars are still siding with Zombi and aggravating the oppression of Tigray” (EPA, 23.12.2021).

Here is just the continuation and the language is very clear. This is just dehumanizing the Tigrayan people and the ones who fight with the TDF. That’s why they are all zombies and anyone who siding with them be zombies too. This here shows what sort of belief and what narratives the state is willing to peddle. There is no justification or proof of the conspiracy, but that’s what they say about others. Not only saying their enemies are zombies, but the ones defending them. This should state it all and its tragic.

Calling other people “intellectual zombies” while having no good argument or reasoning behind it. It is a lacking and not having proper reasoning behind the arguments put forward. It is an empty pity of plights and self-serving rhetoric. Where everyone who is not behind or supporting the Tripartite Alliance or the Federal Government. So, it’s not zombie like just to peddle the same narrative or collective stories of one party and question them all. As I would question the Tripartite Alliance and the TDF/TPLF. Alas, the ones who is thinking would question both parties and everyone involved in a conflict. However, not just take one side and take it as the truth. Which is what this write does, while undermining and dehumanizing the ones who stands for anther belief. That is just the tragedy here…

The final nail in the coffin or of this think piece is this: “The ideologues have been left behind by Mao, Lenin and Stalin’s followers, but the T-TPLF political zombie, who has taken refuge in the city of refuge, is saying that he will take the ideology with him to the grave. The economic zombie was a thief, a glutton, a greedy man, and everything he saw was beautiful. Blood that sticks out like a tick on the genitals; He is the chief of the day hyenas. The looting and destruction in the Afar and Amhara regions is a good example of this. # Refuse #Nomore” (EPA, 23.12.2021).

We are seeing yet another layer of dehumanizing of the TPLF and the TDF. Where everything is evil and nothing is good. As if the Tripartite Alliance is all good or caring, concerning or has acted all in good faith, which we all know is far from truth. This is just digging deeper and showing what sort of levels of dishonesty the writer has here. There is just venom and agony here… and the path of the TDF is just vicious. That is what the EPA is stating and message they are spreading. However, there is no justification for it and we cannot believe the levels of destruction, looting and whatnot, which the state media says.

As the same media is projecting everything on their enemies without proof. That’s why I am skeptical to it all. Yes, I believe the TDF would do damage and harm to infrastructure as they take safe passage to their territory. So, to say that the TDF did all this injustice and war-crimes is really painting a vicious picture of them. While not taking into account what the ENDF and allies has done with air-raids, own shelling of regions and towns, to not forget their manners of they have conducted the war. Therefore, this is one-siding all ills and it’s so systematic that it’s clear in intention of the publication and the writer.

This is how to bankrupt your arguments and not come with any just reasons for your stances. Just empty shallow rhetoric of dehumanizing metaphors while trying to make the enemy worse than what they really is. Peace.

Ethiopia: The Ethiopian Press Agency is now demonizing the mothers of Tigray

Yesterday on the 20th December 2021, the state media house Ethiopian Press Agency dropped an article or a think piece by Joshua Melet about “Shotlai, the Mother of Tigray”. This is clearly where the government is going with things and it’s worrying. As the warfare continues and never ending in the Tigray region. If the warfare is in Western Tigray or now getting into Alamata. The state vilification of the ethnic group of Tigrayans doesn’t stop. This text is clearly so, as the article is speaking of the “beast” and demonize the mothers of Tigray. That shouldn’t be a thing, but it is and the state media is happy to publish this…

The text is beginning with this: “Some sections of our society believe that there is an evil spirit that prevents children from being born and growing up. They call this battle of the evil spirit “Shotlai”” (Melet, 2021).

When you start with this… you know where this is going and it isn’t getting better. It is only getting worse. Like the writer continues with:

In the early hours of the morning, there are many mothers who have been ruined by the schizophrenia. Individually, we can refer to families affected by this problem. If we look at it as a society, it is not as if there is anyone who has snatched his children from Shotlai” (Melet, 2021).

So here it is a continuation of the vilification of the mothers, but in the next part it will become even more striking. As it should be bad enough to be like this, but now it takes a turn and the metaphors are becoming more vicious.

The scorpion eats the fruit of the womb; It is very similar to the terrorist act of the so-called invisible enemy warfare that keeps races or generations from continuing. Probably a factor as to why they’re doing so poorly. The terrorist TPLF, on the other hand, is a beast that has been gnashing its teeth and gnashing its teeth for generations. Clothed in human form by nature; Speaks in human language: It is a gathering of a few individuals” (Melet, 2021).

Now that we have gone from “Shotlai” the evil spirit, the demon to becoming like a scorpion. The last time scorpions was cool was when Xzibit had it in his music videos in the early 2000. For the rest of us, it is a creator we despise and dislike with a passion. As it a creator which cause pain and suffering. There is nothing good to say about scorpions. So, this is just showing how the state tarnish the TPLF and make it a villain. We already seen over the last few months and year, how the state projects everything upon the TPLF and alleged all crimes upon them. While never shredding any proofs or evidence of such matters. Now, they are saying the TPLF is a beast like a scorpion and eats the fruits of the womb. That is clearly targeting the innocent child in belly and shows what sorts of levels of discomfort the state has towards the Tigray.

It just becomes more horrific, as the tale continues: “After handing over the fruit of their womb to the cannibals, they have no choice but to fight. The suffering of the mothers of Tigray does not end there; At the festival, they are forced to take photographs of children who have been abducted by scorpions. They then dance and use “Enber” to motivate others” (Melet, 2021).

So, the beast, the Shotlai, the scorpion is now turning into a cannibal who eats the children. They have to use their kids to pose at events and dance to get others to follow them. First, they take their children and make them warriors. They get trained by scorpions who doesn’t speak human language, but by the beast (aka the Devil). While possessing them to gather and be public about the festive seasons.

It continues: “He is well aware that the terrorist group is not fighting to defeat the Ethiopian people. Perhaps the best thing that will come out of this war is to force many young people to grieve for the mothers of Tigray. In the past, he may have had the pleasure of slaying innocent people and destroying institutions, as he did in the case of the satanic spirit. Beyond that, he will not destroy Ethiopia as he intended. His past experience has shown that the massacre of the people of Tigray is nothing if the group believes that it will gain political gain” (Melet, 2021). .

Here it is a continuation of everything else. As the mothers who was demonic and possessed is supposed to grieve over the losses, which was caused by the terrorist group. While we are not seeing what the Abiy regime have done to the Tigray region and not given access to it. The Federal Government have abandoned it and not given way to humanitarian assistance. Therefore, why should the mothers of Tigray stand idly by and trust in the government, which will not give it food, basic necessities or even use utilities.

So, it is hard to see a difference between a caring government and a supposed terrorist organization. When one is air-striking, blocking aid and coming with armed invasions, as well as steady massacres and never ceasing human rights violations. So, who is the satanic spirit? Here the writer is saying terrorist wants to kill their own for political gains. That is a sinister idea, but also shows the projection of the writer here. As, the state cannot contain anything and wants to project all of their acts upon others. That has been modus operandi of the state.

If you thought this was over… you are wrong: “Many mothers in Tigray are starving their children to death so that they do not starve to death. Once the group is mobilized, the people of Tigray will be overjoyed” (Melet, 2021).

Here we continue the path of destruction and now it’s the mothers who does this to their children. Surely, the man-made famine and the blocking of access to humanitarian access isn’t the fault of the mothers, but of the federal government, which has blocked it over the last 13 months. This is a vicious attempt of vilification of the mothers of Tigray and making them look like monsters too.

It ends with: “This difficult question for the mothers of Tigray should not only shorten the life of the group, but also open a new chapter in their children’s history. All of our people need to be morally capable of mothers in Tigray” (Melet, 2021).

So, the shotlai, the scorpion, the beast and the demon is supposed to take care of their kids and give them a new chapter in life. Alas, that sounds far fetched, because how can that be possible. In such a manner, that the rest of Ethiopia has to step in as mothers in Tigray.

That something like this is published and the state press thinks this is well use of their platforms. Says a lot about what the state is willing to do. The Ethiopian News Agency shows what sort of rhetoric and ideology is fine and dandy in December 2021. That they can demonize and make such an attempt of glorification of propaganda is tragic. As this is making all mothers of Tigray and the people of Tigray into beasts. That says it all…

This shouldn’t be a thing… but that is where we are and nothing can overshadow that the people allowing this to be published are appointees of the Prosperity Party. The Board of the EPA is all members of PP and has connections the Prime Minister. Therefore, this is the sort of thoughts and opinions, which is sanctioned and is promoted at this current age.

That should be a sign of how far the state goes and has the nerve to publish. Peace.

Somalia: Humanitarian Partners release 2022 Response Plan for Somalia, UN announces US$17 Million towards immediate drought response efforts (20.12.2021)

The 2022 HRP seeks close to US$1.5 billion to assist 5.5 million of the most vulnerable people in Somalia.

MOGADISHU, Somalia, December 20, 2021 – The United Nations and humanitarian partners in Somalia have released the 2022 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) for Somalia, which is facing three consecutive failed rainy seasons for the first time in 30 years.

The 2022 HRP seeks close to US$1.5 billion to assist 5.5 million of the most vulnerable people in Somalia. To meet the immediate needs of drought-affected communities, the UN is releasing US$17 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), bringing CERF funding for Somalia in 2021 to $52 million. This is in addition to just under $60 million provided by donors to the Somalia Humanitarian Fund.

“The lives of the people in Somalia are on the line, and we have no time to lose,” said the UN Humanitarian Chief Martin Griffiths. “To save lives in Somalia and avert another humanitarian catastrophe, we must release funding now so that people can protect themselves from further hunger and impoverishment. I am releasing $17 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund today to enable humanitarians to scale up critical operations. I count on other donors to follow this lead and urge them to generously support the Somalia Humanitarian Fund.”

People in Somalia have endured decades of conflict, recurrent climate shocks, and disease outbreaks, including the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. A prolonged desert locust infestation has impacted also harvests and livelihoods. At least seven in 10 people in Somalia live below the poverty line.

An estimated 7.7 million Somalis will require humanitarian assistance and protection in 2022, marking a 30 per cent rise in needs in just one year.

The HRP will prioritize life-saving assistance for 5 million of the most vulnerable people, including 1 million children under 5, by decreasing the prevalence of hunger, acute malnutrition, public health threats and outbreaks, abuse, violence, and exposure to explosive ordinances by the end of the year. In addition, partners will attempt to sustain the lives of 5.5 million people requiring humanitarian assistance, including 3.9 million non-IDPs, 1.6 million IDPs and people with disability across 74 districts, by ensuring safe, equitable and dignified access to livelihoods and essential services. Finally, the humanitarian response in Somalia aims to uphold commitments to the centrality of protection.

Conflict and insecurity have forced 777,000 people to flee their homes so far this year. Overall, more than 2.9 million people are internally displaced in Somalia – one of the world’s highest figures. Most of these internally displaced people live a precarious existence and need help to survive. Women and girls make up half of the displaced population and face a heightened risk of sexual violence and harassment, abuse and intimate partner violence. “The current drought has devastated livelihoods and pushed families to the brink of disaster,” said Federal Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Khadija Diriye. “There is a high risk that without immediate humanitarian assistance, children, women and men will start dying of starvation in Somalia.” Somalia – on the front line of climate change – is the most severely drought-affected country in the Horn of Africa. An estimated 3.2 million people in 66 out of the country’s 74 districts are experiencing the cumulative impacts of three consecutive below average rainy seasons, including 169,000 who have abandoned their homes to seek water, food and pasture.

Recent projections indicate that up to 1.4 million Somalis could be displaced by drought in the coming six months. Widespread livestock deaths are already being reported, and food, water and fuel prices are rapidly increasing. Crop production in January is projected to be 50-70 per cent below the last ten-year average.

Humanitarian organizations, local communities and government authorities have ramped up responses to address acute water, food and fodder shortages and other lifesaving needs for people across Somalia. But they urgently need to ramp up these efforts and in order to scale up, they need additional resources and unfettered access to people in need.

Ethiopia: Tigray External Affairs Office – Press Release by the Government of Tigray on teh Adoption of UN-HRC Resolution on the Situation of Human Rights in Ethiopia (18.12.2021)
