Ethiopia: The PM’s lies are getting stale

“The first phase of the prosperity journey we embarked on over the past few years, phase one, was the era of rising. It was a phase in which we woke up from a deep sleep and began rising from many debts. In this chapter, we declared that prisoners should be released, those in exile should return home, and those who fought should reconcile. Those dismissed from universities and the defense should be reinstated. Those divided within the Orthodox and Muslim communities can be bridged through synergy. Let the dust be cleared, and grace be revealed. There should be no torture in Ethiopia. Whether you believe it or not, not a single person has been subjected to torture in Ethiopia over the past six years. We are proud of this. Prosperity should be a party that lays a solid foundation. If we achieve this, members of the Prosperity Party should not focus on the current political chaos; an amazing era lies ahead. The children understands the foundation that prosperity is laying. Our fate, as well as our results, will be determined by our children. Our fathers did not properly practice politics. They did not develop indigenous ideas. Instead, they debated and killed each other over borrowed ideologies, and they wanted to continue that. There conflicts in Oromia, Amhara, Tigray, and other places. Those brewing these conflicts are the same ones who mishandled politics in the past. The new generation seeks development and prosperity” – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali (02.02.2025)

It must be exhausting to lie as much as the Head of State and second time elected as Party President of the Prosperity Party, Abiy Ahmed Ali. Surely, he can lie, and the state media will post it as truth. They will find glossy pictures and make him look good.

Prime Minister Abiy and his party is by his definition into a second era. Nevertheless, there isn’t many changes or much hope anymore. As the conflicts are keeping a hold of him. He is allowing warfare, usage of conflict and doing so to consolidate power. That’s why he talking about the old generation fighting and they should have just sought out of his ideology.

This is the words he and how he praises his own work. The ones believing his rhetoric and speeches in 2025 has lost their way. This government is brutal and uses warfare to get ahead. The Prime Minister who speaks of peace, but really thrives on war. A person who consolidates power through conflict and gets his enemies on their knees. That’s how he works, and they all have to bend the knee to him. This is the real “medemer terror” and the era of Abiy.

Prime Minister Abiy says there is no “torture” in his years in power. We know this is a lie. He could have said there is no “extra-judicial killings” but we know that is the case too. Just like there is assassinations and other means of punitive actions against dissidents, opposition or even activists. Therefore, the PM should reconsider his stance. There is plenty of reports showing the injustice and the misuse of power, which is common practice in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

The most vital thing in the FDRE right now is to be begging for mercy and being a loyal soldier for Abiy. If you do that and be there for Abiy. That’s when you are doing the right thing. The man who you must praise and leech on. The PM is the saviour and the statesman. That is what we are supposed to believe and see in front of us.

Abiy thinks no one will speak the truth. Someone has too. As the conflicts and the internal warfare is only showing his true character. It was a man of peace he sold his personality and ethos as, but with time his just another warlord. That is who he is… look at his record and his achievements. This is what he has done and continues to do. Peace.

Besigye behind bars for 76 days [on the 3rd of February 2025] without proper trial as a civilian…

“There is a heavy presence of the military and police at the Makindye-based General Court Martial, where four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye is expected to appear, as indicated during the last sitting of the court. However, sources confirm that the Court Martial will not sit today following the Supreme Court’s ruling last Friday, which ordered that all cases involving civilians before the Court Martial should cease immediately and be transferred to civil courts with competent jurisdiction” (Daily Monitor, 03.02.2025).

Well, the more things change, the more they stay the same. The General Court Martial of Makindye Barracks is upon us. The case pending for Dr. Kizza and his associates are still on schedule. Meanwhile, the verdict on the 31st of January 2025 have certainly had no barring or powers to stop the continuation of the GCM.

The ones that is shocked or in awe. They haven’t seen how the state acts and doesn’t comply with orders. The President’s words are law, and his orders are the ones that matters. The Executive or Commander-in-Chief can decide, and he has the final word.

We all should know that the Supreme Court could do the citizens and civilians a favour, but that is worthless when the High Above has another idea. That idea is to use the GCM and target his dissidents there. As he can order and have a direct involvement in their decisions. The manner of keeping people detained and defer the case. Therefore, keeping the suspect behind bars, but without a proper trial or even prove any evidence on the charges pinned on the civilian. That’s what the President wants, and he is supportive of this practice.

President Museveni needs the GCM, and it is a vital tool or mechanism of his oppressive regime. It gives a lifeline and ability to try civilians without any sort of proper function. Meanwhile, skim the top of the activists, leaders and whatnot, which him and his allies deems unfit to be in public. These citizens can be pawns and be the poster-boys of the opposition. That’s why they are there, and he keeps them there.

Dr. Kizza Besigye isn’t new to all of this. He has been touched by the authorities or faced the law more than anyone else in the Republic. Besigye should be released, because a civilian tried in the GCM. However, we know the words of Museveni is law. So, with the knowledge of that. We can just expect that Besigye, and his associates will linger in jail.

Today in this case alone, Besigye have been behind bars for 76 days. That is what has happened to him. Neither is there any real hope of release nor be on bail. No, the state is making an example of Besigye. Even if Besigye if the person who has all knowledge of how the state operates and how they use the law against the innocent. He knew this long before they kidnapped him in Nairobi, Kenya.

The GCM is a tribunal made for disciplining soldiers or commanders in the army. Nevertheless, Museveni wants it to be used as a tool of oppression. That’s why his defending the usage of the GCM and will not stop the practice.

I wouldn’t be shocked if this case continues and is pending. There is nothing… that is shocking about it. If he is released… we should expect him to be re-arrested and if lucky… his again house-arrested or something similar. Because Besigye will be followed, monitored and be in legal jeopardy. That is just the nature of thing. I wish it could be different, but that is mere reality of everything. Peace.

The Silent War: Yesterday’s Speech by President Ndayishimiye had some insights

Why this silence? Doesn’t the international community see the consequences? I am telling you, if this continues, war risks spreading across the entire region because the people will not stand by idly. If Rwanda continues to seize the territory of another country, I know it will eventually reach Burundi as well. They are training young refugees, arming them, and now hardening them through the war in the DRC. One day, they will come for Burundi. We will not allow it. War will spread” – President Evariste Ndayishimiye (31.01.2025)

The ones that doesn’t see a flashing light and the danger of what is unfolding in the Great Lakes region. They aren’t following it. The rise of the Movement of March 23 (M23) and the allies who are able and capable of being a security threat to the whole Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Therefore, as someone who is involved in the conflict and as an ally of Kinshasa. The words of Burundi President Evarist Ndayishimiye matters.

The Burundian President isn’t always the brightest or the most insightful man. Neither is he able to be deceitful or even covert his missions. He is a straight forward sort of fella and that shows in his cautionary tale of yesterday. We also got to have in mind that there are conflict and unresolved tensions between Gitega and Kigali. There is issues between Ndayishimiye and Kagame. These two aren’t on speaking terms and neither are trusting each other. Therefore, there is underlying tensions here too. Which will also be reflected in how the Burundian President thinks.

He further states: “From a security standpoint, we are facing a major threat in eastern DRC. If things continue to deteriorate, the consequences will be dire, and every country will have to fend for itself. I proposed a plan for the region. I know that if it had been implemented, we would have peace by now. Because tell me, if Rwanda justifies its presence in the DRC by citing the FDLR [a Rwandan armed rebel group], isn’t that an issue that can be resolved peacefully? Sacrificing the Congolese people? Killing millions under the pretext of a security threat? Couldn’t this be addressed without shedding innocent blood?” (Ndayishimiye, 31.01.2025).

Here he is speaking facts, as we know Kigali uses the FDLR as an excuse to partake and support insurgency across the borders. Though the warfare and such is done for other profitable reasons. There is so much more to gain by issuing war and inflicting harm, as they monopolize and get illicit mineral trade, which is enriching Rwanda. That’s why they are there… and the FDLR is an excuse to justify the means to a profitable end.

One cautionary tale that was told is every insightful about the M23: “I sent my officers to inspect the designated site—Sabyinyo. They found it unlivable. So, I suggested to the Congolese government that another location be chosen. The government agreed, and we identified Rumangabo as a suitable area. Military officials inspected it, confirmed that conditions were acceptable, and M23 agreed to the relocation. Everything was prepared. But just as the transfer was about to begin, they resumed fighting. Why? When they were with me, they had asked: ‘If we go, what happens next?’ I told them: ‘Next, you enter the peace process—join the Nairobi negotiations—and pursue your demands peacefully.’ They had accepted, and I had even convinced the Congolese government. Remember, the government had said, ‘If they agree to be demobilized, it means they are committed to peace. We will include them in the Nairobi process.’ The Congolese government agreed. But as M23 resumed fighting, how can you negotiate with someone who does not want peace?” (Ndayishimiye, 31.01.2025).

This here says it all. Just as the Kigali excuse of the FDLR. There has been proof of talks and negotiations directly with the M23. To give them grounds and ability told hold cease-fire. However, that haven’t been in the interest of M23 or their backers. That’s why they continue the warfare and the conflict. It is much deeper and they have intended to do this. As the M23 see their strength and strategic placement to succeed. That’s why they didn’t want or care about an honest negotiations. This all makes sense. Especially, as the insurgency and rebellion is a winning formula right now.

Kagame and his allies will mock this one, but here is Ndayishimiye actually proving vital points. He isn’t as clever with words or articulate as Kagame, but his heart is here. Even with the tormentors actions of his government. Still, he can see a bigger picture too. That’s why it is interesting to read the speech of Ndayishimiye just days after how Kagame deflected and acted holier than thou.

Well, this is far from over. Time will tell, but these sorts of stories lives in infamy until they are written into detail. Peace.
