Sudan: An important statement from the groups and components that reject the government formation proposal (11.02.2025)

We announce our regularity, as of today, under the name of the Civil Democratic Alliance of the Revolutionary Forces (Sumoud), through temporary structures headed by Dr. Abdullah Hamdok.

to me:

The Sudanese people at home and abroad in war zones, displacement and refugee camps

Friends of Sudan and its people who support our people’s right to peace and a free and dignified life by responding to their legitimate aspirations for sustainable democratic civil rule in neighboring countries and peoples and our regional and international surroundings.

Local, regional and international public opinion

We address you today while our country is going through a criminal war that has left behind the largest humanitarian disaster in the world and is still raging in a brutal manner that is increasing day after day, with millions of innocent Sudanese paying the price, and the advocates of war and elements of the former regime profiting from it, who want to liquidate the glorious December revolution and tighten their control over the country, and reproduce a more brutal version of their criminal fascist regime, which has a long history of terrorist destabilization and whose results and effects are known in our regional and international neighborhood.

The civil and democratic forces, within the framework of their role and efforts to stop the war, achieve peace and establish sustainable democratic civil rule, convened a meeting in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, in October 2023, which resulted in the announcement of the establishment of the “Coordination of Democratic Civil Forces (Progress)” to be the broadest umbrella for democratic civil forces opposing the war, in order to achieve comprehensive and lasting peace and establish sustainable democratic civil rule. In order to achieve these goals and objectives, great and tremendous efforts were made, leading to the founding conference in May 2024, which added new and qualitative components to “Progress.”

The last few months have witnessed a difference in visions between the components of “Progress” regarding the issue of legitimacy and how to deal with it. This difference resulted in the existence of two positions that were difficult to reconcile, so it was decided to sever the political and organizational link between two positions. The first of these positions sees the continuation of the struggle through means of democratic civil work without forming a government, and the other position sees the formation of a government as one of the tools of the coordination’s work.

In light of these developments, we, the undersigned groups and components that rejected the formation of a government as one of the tools to delegitimize the Port Sudan authority, announce to our people and local, regional and international public opinion that we will, as of today, join under the name *The Civil Democratic Alliance of the Revolutionary Forces “Sumoud”*, in our belief and commitment to the importance of the democratic civil forces choosing and committing to an independent path that does not side with any of the parties to the war or engage in it in any way, and that they confront every action or statement that threatens the unity of the country and tears apart its social fabric, and that their approach should be the tireless pursuit of protecting civilians, confronting any violations to which they are exposed, addressing the humanitarian crisis and stopping the war urgently through a peaceful political solution that addresses the roots of the crisis in a way that leads to the establishment of the Sudanese state and the establishment of a sustainable and just peace.

We, in the Civil Democratic Alliance of the Revolutionary Forces “Sumoud”*, affirm that we will remain committed to the principles and goals that we agreed upon in the founding conference of the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces “Progress”. In this context, we have agreed to work through temporary structures headed by Dr. Abdullah Hamdok until the permanent structures are approved after completing the necessary organizational discussions. As for the political and media level, we reaffirm the continuation of our daily work for the purpose of contributing positively to ensure the protection of civilians and stopping any violations they are exposed to, and working to address the humanitarian crisis and deliver aid to those in need throughout Sudan without restrictions, conditions or discrimination, and completing efforts to stop the war by building the broadest civil democratic front for forces that believe in the goals of the December Revolution and believe in stopping the war and achieving comprehensive and permanent peace and establishing democratic civil rule, while subjecting all our organizational and political experiences to deep reviews that develop and enhance the ability of the civil democratic forces to confront the discourses of war and hatred and the plans of the defunct regime, and to complete the path of the glorious December Revolution that the forces of darkness will not succeed in burying no matter what they do.

Kawempe North By-Election: The NUP have picked the former DP counsel as their flagbearer

Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi the prominent lawyer and counsel are now the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate as the Member of Parliament in the Kawempe North By-Election. It is only last October 2024 that he resigned as the counsel for the Democratic Party (DP) after his disagreement with the DP-NRM agreement. However, that was after a long time, and he waited long to do so.

It is within reason why Nalukoola would pick the NUP. He knows this is the best way to Parliament in the Opposition. The NUP are the current one who was elected to the seat and is most likely the party to get re-elected into. That’s why for him to take this seat is vital. It is the way in and ensuring himself longevity. He can now continue Mr. Update’s work and created his own legacy by doing so.

Alas, herein where the problem is. He is a political elite. This man has been in the upper echelon and is a voice of reason. Yes, he has fought as a counsel for big cases and for prominent leaders. That’s been part of his work and what he stood for. However, that doesn’t make him a man of the people. Only that he has picked to represent as a set of people and they have given him work.

The former DP counsel just mere months after leaving that party of long affiliation. That man decided to stand in the earliest By-Election. He got ahead and even used his nomination of the role as a way of giving rice to supporters, as he presented his paperwork to the NUP Party officials. That’s what he decided to do, and it is telling.

This man is transactional and will leverage his position. He was just a minute ago the DP counsel. We can wonder what the Election Management Committee (EMC) is seeing or reasoning for their decision.

I’m just baffled, especially after the heroics of Mpuuga. The NUP saw what happened and there been other journeymen just using the ticket to get ahead. These people are just seeing a meal-ticket and not there for possible change. No, they are using the party and getting into office. Not caring about the message or the mandate of the party. When you have the likes of Mpuuga leaving the DP to become NUP. Maybe, the NUP should be careful doing the same thing again.

That’s why I am wondering what the long-term plan with this is and what is their endgame. It seems to be a quick fix. He will never fill the void of Muhammad Ssegirinya MP. No one can fill that or become a figure like him. Mr. Update used his whole life and years to become the man he was. Meanwhile, the counsel will takeover from the late MP.

Well, it won’t be that easy. Most likely he will get elected and get a few months in the 11th Parliament before the General Election of 2026. Nevertheless, this seems like a misfortunate choice. The party did this in haste and took a big-name lawyer. Instead of picking a person that could be representative and be a voice of the people.

That’s why the NUP could have used longer time and let this one go for now. However, for the party its more important to retain a seat, than re-assure the population that the party will have their best interests at heart. It seems more into getting another MP, than getting an MP who can be as wholesome as Mr. Update. Alas, that is a forgotten chapter and it’s tragic.

Seeing this now… is just at a loss. The NUP could have made a better plan for this. They have shown some character. Nevertheless, this short-term patch work won’t build a resilient party, but instead find more journeymen to become their flagbearers. Peace.

Ethiopia: The TPLF is called out by the WFP and TIP

“Our people must understand one thing. The politics of the TPLF is not only against the people of Tigray but also against the geographical location of Tigray and all the heritage that has sprouted from the civilization of generations in general. The politics of the TPLF can never be the political ally of any country or party (with the exception of the Shaabia). Because the policies he pursued in the name of the workers must be exposed and hated as an innocent killer in human rights violations and an anti-democratic, anti-justice and anti-multipolitical political system led by one-party agent politics. To realize its political philosophy, the TPLF regime has been pursuing a strategy of dividing and weakening the people. As is well known, this force is a totalitarian/ totalitarian force that is very quick to execute, acts brutally to achieve its plans, and is divorced from rationality” (Tigray Independence Party, 10.02.2025).

The leaders of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) should be aware and known that their activities are questioned. As the former ruling party and regime of the republic. The TPLF should be more worried and try to show its positive force. Instead, it continues to use power and stifle others. We have seen it block parties and stopped the opposition in the Tigray region from gathering. Therefore, the latest news isn’t of any good either.

The TPLF and T-Interim Regional Administration (TIRA) should listen up. They should be worried that the World Food Programme is calling you out. That in combination of the Tigray Independence Party (TIP). This is telling how you are failing the citizens and society as a whole. That’s a big spectrum and they are calling out the misgivings of the TPLF.

TPLF needs to open up their ears and listen to it. We know they haven’t dwelled into it, but at this point they should. It isn’t like the TPLF is very strong or has massive amount of support. They need goodwill and need to show character. Instead, they are showing their willingness to extort and take people for granted.

Who thought it was wise to force internally displaced people to pay a fee for each household for membership in the TPLF party?

That’s just a foolish idea. They are already internally displaced and struggles with their livelihoods. These people are struggling and fighting to survive. They have fled their homes and are afraid to move back home. Those people are forced to pay money to the party. The TPLF should know better, but it shows their sinister heart.

The TPLF should also be concerned that the TIP and other parties in the region is stifled. They are silenced and being hold back. The TPLF have been the “one-party” and been ruling one. They are still in power and hold the offices of region. TPLF and TIRA are the rulers of the Tigray region. They should be open and give the other political parties a level playing field. However, we know that isn’t the case.

TPLF needs to listen and quickly. They cannot get away from their misdeeds. TPLF needs to listen to the WFP and TIP. These voices are loud and clear. TPLF cannot deflect this but acknowledge it and change their ways. If not… the people and the population would go against it. It is just a matter of time, because who wants to be loyal to a party treating the citizens like this. Peace.

Opinion: The First Son was allowed to make a statement in the CBD

“Supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) are marching to Parliament in protest against what they view as disrespect towards their chairman, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).  The protest has drawn a large crowd and is being closely monitored by police, leading to the closure of several roads to allow for movement of the demonstrators” (NTV Uganda, 10.02.2025).

“The group of PLU protesters marching to Parliament, who had reached the Lugogo By-pass, have been redirected to Kati Kati, where they were served refreshments and cordoned off. Reports indicate they have been barred from continuing their march to Parliament” (NBS Television, 10.02.2025).

Today we again saw the difference between the opposition and the regime itself. The first son, the senior presidential advisor and CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba own outfit, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) was allowed to go on the streets and demonstrate for himself. It is really ironic and shows the massive difference between him and others.

That the General and his own supporters can run to the streets is telling. The man who let his people run to the streets in his name. Meanwhile, the opposition wouldn’t have started or been on the streets at all. The leaders would have been rounded up or house-arrested ahead of the protest. Therefore, we know the General is allowed to do whatever he likes.

This isn’t shocking and they can act like their rights was taken away from them. As the PLU was guided to Kati Kati instead of Parliament. That is just a minor difference, but the opposition would be in trouble, targeted and felt the punitive action from the get-go. The opposition would be detained and be charged for destroying business on an ordinary day. Alas, that isn’t the case with the PLU.

They are now boosting the ego of the General. A General and a brute who already thinks to high and mighty about himself. This won’t make things better, as he would think his even more significant. As the bootlickers surrounding him went to the streets and gathered with whoever believes in him. This is just showing the dire need for change and how the regime tries to façade itself for a transition to the son.

The son won’t bring anything better. He made a demonstration because the MPs wants him to be held accountable. He got his political entity to the streets because he doesn’t want to be transparent. If that is your guy or leader. Then I hate to disappoint you, but his a selfish man who only see himself and not the ones his serving. That’s why others have to go to the streets, but he is nowhere to be found. He isn’t leading from the front, but from a back-office or hallow chamber somewhere else.

It just shows that the PLU is the regime, and the regime is the PLU. A real demonstration or protest would have met fire. The PLU would have been ceased-off and their leaders would be behind bars. That’s why we know this isn’t legit. Peace.
