Opinion: Nsereko MP hopes to revive a briefcase party

“I promise not to run for MP after three terms, and now that my terms have expired, I have proven that when you are true to your word, you live up to it. When I say that as Ecological Party we shall restore term limits, with the president serving a maximum of two terms, we mean it because we stand by our word” – Muhammed Nsereko MP (NTV Uganda, 02.06.2025)

“The Ecological Party of Uganda has been a small voice of green politics in the central African country, and has had trouble finding its footing.  Though founded in 2005, the EPU has not fielded candidates since 2009, and has never won a seat in the Parliament of Uganda” (Joshua Allen – ‘Ecological Party of Uganda Campaigns for 2021 Election’ 30.11.2020, Global Green News).

The former NRM leaning Independent Member of Parliament for Kampala Central Muhammed Nsereko are now the Presidential Flagbearer for the Ecological Party. A party who worked in silence for about two decades and fielded six losing candidates in 2021. They had 5 MP flagbearers and one LC5 Candidate, all of them lost. That’s after 16 years without any candidates in any elections.

This party is now aging and is already two decades old. The party is over 20 years old but never been tested. The EPU has lost before, and the Electoral Commission has turned away Bbale Charles Lwanga in 2015 and in 2021. It just shows how the party has been run, and it couldn’t manage to run for their registered representative.

We know Muhammed Nsereko does this to salvage his career and worry of another red wave ahead of the 2026 elections. He cannot sustain the possible tidal wave in Kampala. That’s why its easier to bounce and jump ship elsewhere. Nsereko MP doesn’t try to return to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) but instead moving to the unknown EPU.

Nsereko MP is now the face of EPU and his the most well-known person to ever carry the banner and the name of the party. It is just unique position, as the party couldn’t do it or even able to field a Presidential Candidate in the two previous elections. Only fielded their first candidates in 2021. All of them fell flat and they didn’t gain much traction either. They got a total of about 4500 votes in total. That says something about the knowledge of the party and their reach.

Because who cared about the Ecological Party (EP) two weeks ago? Most likely none. It only created headlines when Nsereko MP became the face of it. However, we shouldn’t expect impact or make a giant change. No, this is meal-ticket politician hoping for a new home. His just making himself bigger and wider under a new banner. The EPU sold itself on a promise of a snake-oil salesman being Nsereko MP.

Nsereko MP has proven his credibility and what his willing to do. His doing everything for the silver-lining of earning easy profits. That’s why he jumps to the party and wants to be their leader. He revives a party that no one knew about and think he can affect the political landscape. Nevertheless, this most likely falls flat and will be a giant falloff.

Nsereko MP showed his face in regard to the Jobless Brotherhood. People should remember that and his not a trustworthy man. However, people tend to forget and that’s why we are here. Peace.

The Story of Cedric Babu Ndilima: When the elites cannot save themselves

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Cedric Babu Ndilima, a former colleague and valued member of the UBC family. Through The Cedric Live Show, he brought insight and vibrance to our screens. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones” (UBC Uganda, 31.05.2025).

“Media personality and sports administrator Cedric Babu has died after battling a heart complication. A fundraiser was launched on social media to raise UGX 1.5bn for his surgery in the UK. However, it was met with mixed reactions from Ugandans” (NTV Uganda, 31.05.2025).

It is just staggering that we are today. The elites want us to feel their pain. They want us to be touched and be in sorrow when they lose their own. However, the same elites aren’t there for the people who are abducted, detained, kept in dungeons, tortured or extra judicially killed in the name of the regime, which the elites thrive on. Therefore, the ask is big, when the elites doesn’t care of the pain of the poor or the deprived of options.

Cedric Babu Ndilima was a man with connections. Not only within the regime but was in association with General Muhoozi Kainerubaga and the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU). Cedric by lineage had a close association and power by birth. His father is Captain Francis Babu, Mother Olive Zaitun Kigongo and stepfather Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo. In addition, the stepmom is Margaret Nantongo Zziwa, the former EALA MP and EALA speaker.

So, if someone had the connections and had the ability to call out for help. The likes of Cedric should be shielded and have all the help the world has to offer. In early May Cedric was airlifted to Kigali, Rwanda for treatment. In the end of May he was transferred to Nairobi, as the family and people surrounding Cedric started a “go-fund” campaign, which caused a stir.

The stir is that evident of connections and inner circle of the regime. If someone should have money and influence, it is the family of Babu and Kigongo. These are two families that has been involved and been a part of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) era. They are known cadres and comrades of the President. That’s why Cedric was a friend and a close associate with Muhoozi.

If the likes of Cedric cannot be saved. It just shows how rotten the system is and how everyone is being left behind. The state has destroyed the Ministry of Health and the hospitals of the nation. In such a manner, that everyone must go outside for help. That being representatives, elected officials or even the elites. The medical tourism is now a need, because the citizens and the ones who has the ability goes abroad to get medical help. This relief is needed by definition and by the necessity for the ones who can. That’s why Cedric was first airlifted to Kigali, before being airlifted again to Nairobi. Thereafter, the man was supposed to go to London. Therefore, things were in the water, but he ended nowhere.

Cedric should have all the funds at his disposal, as the families itself must have wealth and capital to shoulder his needs. They should be as vital and connected to ensure the treatment for him. However, that isn’t apparently so… if not they hoped the citizens would have mercy and show solidarity to one of their own. That clearly backfired…

I will not blame the late for his demise. There are other factors here, but certainly the family underestimated the loyalty and the token part of the government for decades. The family and the inner circle should see how this played out.

The NRM needs to listen to all of this. The State House and First Family should adhere to the calls too. As one of their own was now lost. Cedric Babu Ndilima was one of them and was well known by Muhoozi. That reflects badly on them and everyone who is in office. This is a detriment to the state of affairs and how it handles things.

Cedric is now gone. As it shows how the state fails its own. It doesn’t only fail the citizens, but even the inner circle. The ones who have everything within his midst and in association with. He can even lose it all and never return. That’s saying something. No one can go untouched. Peace.
