Police Colonel Moïse Arakaza aka “Nyeganyega” is now confirmed arrested in Rumonge and detained in a Police Cell in Bujumbura. Plenty of Nyeganyega’s “employees” was also arrested yesterday too. So, the criminal conspiracy and criminal operation has been uncovered, which the authorities haven’t authorized. Therefore, his behind bars for violating the order and the will of the ones in power.
Nyeganyega is known for violence and murder. He has assassinated people and gotten away with it. There plenty of places of which he has been stationed and worked, which has been plagued with his activities. Meanwhile, those fatal acts hasn’t ensnared him or even made his life troublesome. As his actions was needed and he was a needed evil for the regime. That’s why they let him off the hook, but now they have captured him.
It was okay that Nyeganyega took lives and used lethal means doing so. The trouble became apparent when he decided to smuggle and create an organization in fuel-fraud. That’s using the fuel import crisis and the regimes lack of foreign exchange. Therefore, he profited on the people’s misery and that was the final straw for authorities. It is really telling that this is the reason.
Greed and corruption, the usage of office for personal gains are criminalized and penalized, but extra judicial killings and violence is acceptable. That just says it all and why Nyeganyega thought he would get away with it.
FOCODE explains how he did it: “A witness familiar with the officer’s activities describes a precise operation: “Nyeganyega sourced fuel from Manyovu, Tanzania, and brought it in through the Mugina border post, Mabanda commune. Often, he used employees, but sometimes he went there himself. He then stored the goods at his house in Muyange, Nyanza Lac commune. In Mugina, everyone knew about it.”” (FOCODE, 15.08.2025).
Two of his employees are already fined and sentenced two a year in prison by the Rumonge High Court. Meanwhile, the ring-leader and the one running it all has gotten away with it for now. His not been touched and been taken to court. There is discussion of jurisdiction and who has the provisions to try a Police Colonel. Therefore, he might have to wait for the Court of Appeal to charge him and hold a trial in this case.
Are we seeing an “untouchable” being touched and possibly getting sanctioned?
If so… doesn’t this show the true values of the regime and the authorities. That a man who could easily take lives and walk away. He was just not allowed to enrich himself on his connections and opportunities, but he could make people stop. That’s saying something and we should be advised about this too. Peace.
