Sudan: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – Press Statement (21.08.2025)

“The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has today launched the official portrait of its presidential flagbearer, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, alongside the theme that will guide the party’s campaigns for the 2025–26 elections. At the event, the 1st National Vice Chairman, Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, underscored the significance of the moment, both as a renewal of the party’s mandate and a reaffirmation of the values that have carried the NRM thus far. Unveiling the theme “Protecting the Gains as We Make a Qualitative Leap into a High Middle Income Status”, Kigongo said it captures the dual responsibility of consolidating Uganda’s hard-won progress while preparing the nation for the next phase of transformation” (National Resistance Movement, 19.08.2025).
There is nothing new under the sun… in that regard the launch of the new campaign and slogan of the incumbent President since 1986. That’s why yesterday’s launch wasn’t that special. It was nothing new, except for a new poster and slogan. Which ironically is a continuation of what is already there.
The NRM and President Museveni aren’t preparing for a new dawn. They aren’t even clever about it. They are just saying they are safeguarding power and wanting to further consolidate it. That’s being done by the usage of force and authority. This is they military and police force is so embedded in politics. Which will be even more rampant and act with furthered impunity ahead of the polls. Therefore, the pledge and promise of NRM is just saying what everyone knows.
This is a NRM and a Museveni to never leave. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has no intentions to retire and even step down. No one is shocked by this. The yellow cadres and yellow yes-men will celebrate the poster and the slogan. Even if it could just say “No Change” like he did in the past. Because, that is what his offering. There is no future in this and only a continuation. A prolonged agony, which are just making things more fragile in the future. Which someone else has to takeover after the Personification of the State has left the office.
“Protecting the Gains” only says the state and the inner-circle wants to continue their gravy-train. That’s what they want to achieve… and we could see it coming. This is who the NRM are and they are proud by it too. They have left the state dilapidated and it’s institutions in a wreck, meanwhile, the most important guideline is to follow the directions of the Presidential letters or decrees. Therefore, these things are seen as a victory and a transformation. Nevertheless, we all know better… but they have to act this way within the Party.
The ones believing in the message so follow up on every single election cycle and the slogans of the past. The ones believing the party wants to succeed or deliver anything sincere. Well, they promised to secure your future last time around and we saw how much they really care. Before that it was Steady Progress and that’s just a blatant lie. Therefore, there is nothing left to celebrate but empty sloganeering, which will not give more food on the plates for the civilians. Neither will the civilians be more free or have their liberty. No, they will be forced this party and its majority yet again. That’s what we know and this is how they act.
They are protecting their own gains and enrichment on the plights of the civilians. That’s what the President and the NRM will do. Anything else is a lie and we all know it. Peace.
