The SPLM-IG’s brazen attempt to muzzle opposition voices has breached the threshold of acceptable politics, exposing their flagrant disregard for constitutionalism and the rule of law. The arbitrary detention of Dr. Riek Machar, a high-ranking official and Commander-in-Chief of the SPLM-IO, constitutes a grave breach of the Peace Agreement’s immunity provisions and undermines the chain of command.
This juridical coup d’etat will fail due to the prosecution’s inability to reconcile Dr. Machar’s diplomatic immunity with the dubious charges levied against him. The Peace Agreement’s supremacy over the Constitution and other laws renders their actions ultra vires, null, and void.
We demand accountability and adherence to the principles of democratic governance,
constitutionalism, and the rule of law. The SPLM-IG’s actions betray their true intentions: to consolidate power through authoritarian means, potentially triggering a state of emergency and undermining the upcoming electoral process.
The people will not be intimidated. We call on all stakeholders, including regional guarantors and international observers, to reject this power grab and uphold the principles of democracy, justice, and constitutionalism.

“Incident at N’djili this Thursday, September 11: the landing of the presidential plane carrying Félix Tshisekedi was briefly disrupted by a power outage. According to sources close to the presidency, a power cut delayed the startup of the backup generator, interrupting communication between the control tower and the crew. Several RVA agents were questioned for investigation. The authorities reassure: the aircraft was never in danger and landed without any major incident” (Kivu Morning Post, 11.09.2025).
That a Presidential Plane is having trouble and have troubles on arrival at the International Airport in the Democratic Republic of Congo. That’s saying something. This here incident should be a wake up call for the Presidency and the ones in-charge.
President Felix Tshisekedi should be worried and concerned about it all. Not only was it humiliating, but a disgrace. That the state couldn’t facilitate and make sure. The President was himself awaiting and unsure about what was going on. There been several conflicting reports and also possible lack of communication with the tower of the airport. That’s very telling of how damaging this incident is. When it is even speculated that it could have been a possible coup d’etat attempt. You know things are bad when the words of these sorts of affairs are going into those territories.
A Presidential Plane should be safe. A Presidential Plane should be secured and be the one that has everything covered. It is a disgrace that the President had this experience. The Republic should be horrified. However, it is telling how the state infrastructure and institutions are lacking. When they lack what is needed and when the news circulated that staff from Ethiopian Airlines had to come to the aide of the Presidential Plane. That’s telling of how things are and what needs to be fixed.
President Tshisekedi and his associates got to rejuvenate the authorities and the ones running vital parts of government. Because this is an utter failure of the state. The plane should have been safe and shouldn’t have had the need to get staff of the Ethiopian Airlines to save it. Neither is it a good sign. Not that is new in the Republic. The Republic isn’t able to safeguard other part of transportation and we sadly see lives lost on ferries. That is also a regular occurrence, which the President should have acted upon too. However, he will most likely get something in regards to his own safety.
This story is just compelling and telling. The DRC government has to act on this, but I wouldn’t count on it. Peace.
