The Democratic Civil Alliance for Revolutionary Forces “Resilience” welcomes the decision of the United Nations Human Rights Council to extend the mandate of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan for an additional year, to continue its investigations and provide periodic reports to the Council and the General Assembly. This decision includes an explicit condemnation of the grave violations committed by the parties to the Sudanese conflict against unarmed civilians, as well as a call for independent, transparent, and impartial investigations in cooperation with the International Criminal Court to ensure accountability for the heinous crimes witnessed in Sudan since the outbreak of the war on April 15.
In this context, we highly appreciate the resolution’s acknowledgment of the efforts of the Democratic Civil Alliance for Revolutionary Forces “Resilience,” which represents a significant boost to all Sudanese civil efforts aimed at stopping the war and completing the path of the glorious December Revolution.
We reaffirm our commitment to continuing our endeavors to achieve comprehensive peace in the country and to build a democratic civilian state that distances itself from all forms of violence that undermine Sudan’s stability and that of its regional and international surroundings.
We also affirm our full support for the work of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan and call on the parties to the conflict to enable it to carry out its tasks across all parts of the country to gather information on the human rights situation.
We extend our gratitude to the countries that submitted the draft resolution and voted in its favor. Each year, the circle of supporters for this resolution expands, while the number of those opposing it diminishes, as the atrocities and violations of this war, which are no longer hidden from anyone, have become clear to the international and regional communities.
The Sudanese people deserve a dignified life, and the perpetrators will be pursued by justice until they are held accountable for the violations they have committed.
We commend the significant role played by Sudanese human rights defenders in documenting the violations against civilians resulting from the war of April 15, 2023, and in reinforcing the Human Rights Council’s direction toward the necessity of extending the mission’s mandate and completing its tasks. This represents a new and important victory for the victims.
We call on the international community to provide the necessary support for the mission’s work and the implementation of the recommendations in its reports, to achieve justice and pave the way for a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace.
