Sudan: Darfur Bar Association – Press Release (11.06.2023)

In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful Darfur Bar Association and Associates.

The city of El Geneina is besieged in light of the escalation of human massacres committed against civilians by transit militias backed by rapid support, ignoring the mediation of Jeddah and the international silence.

The Commission issued several times its warnings against completely relying on the Jeddah mediation platform, which brings together the two parties to the war, and the Saudi mediator himself has fleeting armies drawn from them, by prolonging the war and searching for premature issues such as attempts to summon the framework agreement, which is one of the reasons for polarization between the two warring parties.

The state of West Darfur is currently witnessing growing human massacres under a siege imposed on it for several weeks by transit militias backed by rapid support, the interruption of services and the displacement of thousands of residents of the city of El Geneina and its environs to the border areas with the neighboring state of Chad, especially the Chadian city of Adre, adjacent to the Sudanese village of Adikong.

In the past weeks and days, the perpetrators targeted local leaders, human rights defenders, lawyers, doctors, and others. In the news received, many martyrs who were targeted yesterday and the past days fell, and among those martyrs.

1/ Human rights defender Khader Suleiman Abdul Majeed.

2/ Professor Al-Fateh Shaa Al-Din.

3/ Mohammed Al-Tayeb Dahab.

4/ Abu Bakr Hassan Tajuddin.

5/ The elderly Sheikh Abdullah Somid, Sheikh of Al-Thawra neighborhood.

6/ Abu Bakr Youssef Zakaria, aka Sharif

The Commission calls on Sudanese civil society organizations to address the United Nations, the International Security Council and the Human Rights Council in Geneva to intervene and take the necessary measures to lift the siege imposed on the city of El Geneina and to immediately stop the arbitrary killing and forced displacement of the residents of the city of El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state, the city of Zalingei, the capital of the state of Central Darfur, and the city of Kutum in North Darfur and the prosecution of perpetrators of human massacres and genocide.

Opinion: The Museveni conspiracy theories surrounding his coronavirus is crazy…

This week it was announced that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was positive for the COVID-19 virus or the coronavirus. That after doing all precautions and avoid close encounters for ages. Heck, the old man wore a face-mask and kept distance on foreign visits too. So, it wasn’t like he took easy or believed he could manage getting the virus.

That’s why he delegated his Vice-President and Prime Minister to handle certain affairs. Just like he delegated the Prime Minister in his stead on Victory Day on the 8th June 2023 in Luweero. That’s what he did and it was uncommon of him to do so.

What is official and announced is that his holding himself in isolation at his home on Nakasero hill. There he has been since it was official that he was with COVID-19. That’s where his been for 5 days and not much news has come out. There been some official statements and writings, but none has been in a manner that can up-ease people.

Now all sorts of conspiracies are going viral. That is happening because Tanzanian and Kenyan media houses are suddenly claiming that Museveni is at the ICU and his son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerubaga has called a family meeting. This news broke now on Sunday, but haven’t been verified or released statements from sources close to the State House. Meaning, it could just be hearsay or made-up “fake news”.

Alas, that’s why things are troubling. As conspiracies of the CIA involved with spies who fed him ricin poison on his matooke. That’s been one, because ricin make you feel feverish, damage your blood-vessels and then the heart. In addition of giving you diarrhoe and small cough. However, that is just words on the web and nothing proven of yet.

The same as the speculation that this is a retaliation of the West and they have made him sick because of the Anti-Homosexuality Act. Well, if that was true… why didn’t they go after him for the same reason in 2011 and 2014? They should have addressed it the first few times in the 9th Parliament and not suddenly strike in the 11th Parliament. Let’s just be legit about for a minute.

They are also pinning this on the same strange manner of death as with former Tanzanian President Joseph Magufuli. Which I find very amusing, because Magufuli worked against the virus and had all sort of hackwork ideas of combatting it. He did everything in his power to keep society open and spread the COVID-19 without any ways of stopping it or treating it. That’s why his died and it was a foolish way to die. The former President could have avoided it by putting in regulations and codes, which would limit the spread. Also, believed in the science and the possible treatment of the virus sooner. However, he never did and that’s why his gone. There is no major conspiracy and a big will of the West to get rid of him. No, that he did on his own accord, actually.

The same story can be written about former Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza. They went both the same path and the similar tragic ending. It could have been avoided and practically they had the authorities, the state apparatus and the ability to do something about it. However, their pride and their will was against doing so. Therefore, making conspiracies in connections with them now is futile.

President Museveni is a man of the lockdowns and a man who did whatever in his way to avoid it. That’s another beast compared to the gentlemen, which I have mentioned. Yes, I am critical of Museveni and his reign. That is being said with reason and with facts. Not just hearsay and utter ignorance. I will not cry havoc or claim someone is deceased before they are. The state might conceal it or hide the fact. However, that would make more reasons to get motive or issue for doing so. We know they would hide it and attempt to find the next way forward. Because, there is no protocol or justified way to a Presidential transition. Nevertheless, that is just hearsay and mere speculation, which I will not dwell into. Especially, when there is no proof of it. Neither is the wording of being air-lifted to Nairobi or abroad for treatment. That usually happens when big-men like Museveni falls seriously ill. They tend to fly to Paris, London or elsewhere to get treatment for their illnesses. That wouldn’t happen in Kampala or in a hospital up-country.

No, that’s why I am taking it with ease and not buying into it just yet. Peace.

South Sudan: Ugandan Deputy Prime Minister Kadaga should walk more carefully

It is not the first or the last time there will be diplomatic impasse or questions across the borders of Uganda and South Sudan. Juba and Kampala are working cordially and as friendly neighbours. Uganda has exported products and been a trading partner for a long time. This is why the Government of Uganda has helped out businesses and exports to South Sudan in general.

What is not working however is when the Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda, Rebecca Kadaga comes with an ultimatum to the South Sudanese Minister of East African Community Affairs, Deng Alor Kuol. She did that in a letter dated to the 7th June titled “Request for the release and return of impounded trucks carrying Ugandan maize flour and other cargo”.

Yes, she is within her rights to ask the South Sudanese Authorities to release the vehicles and the drivers who are stuck in South Sudan. Nevertheless, the letter itself was a humble or a recognition of the state of affairs. The South Sudanese Authorities only doing protocol and ensure safety of the food that imported from Uganda. It is showing that the South Sudanese Authorities are concerned about what is imported and sold for human consumption. That should be applauded and not disregarded.

The truck drivers and the companies coming with the maize flour wasn’t there on donation drive or charity. This was business and they planned to unleash this maize flour on South Sudanese consumers. Therefore, the authorities just needed to do this and ensure the right of passage.

It is not a good look of a high ranking official to cry havoc over possibly poisonous food. This is maize flour that isn’t good for consumption. Alas, the Ugandan traders and companies thought they could dump this and sell it off in South Sudan. Because, they knew they couldn’t risk doing the same at home or within the Republic of Uganda.

The outcry of Kadaga to Alor Kuol is telling. The arrogance and bitterness of getting caught. She should know better and plea for the return of the trucks. That would have made sense. They were carrying dangerous food and we can be grateful that it didn’t hit the markets. As the maize flour could have poisoned people.

The South Sudanese Minister should hold this letter in contempt and the remedies of it too. It is like Kadaga wants to save face and shield the companies who was actively importing the maize flour. When they knew very well what they where bringing to South Sudan. It doesn’t happen by default, but as a “last resort” or “final destination”. Because, the Deputy PM knows this wouldn’t fly at home either. People wouldn’t accept the danger or the possible damage it would cause to consume this maize flour.

Kadaga is a disappointment here. She should know better, but apparently that’s too much to ask. Peace.

Opinion: Boris had to go…

No one will shed a tear about this, but the ones that does is just not releasing what sort of character he was. Boris Johnson is finally resigning as Member of Parliament (MP). His doing so because of his actions during lockdown. The former PM was busy holding parties and social gatherings in the middle of lockdown. Apparently, in the end there is some consequences to it after all.

Boris felt entitled to sit as MP and to be held in high regard. Even when it wasn’t justified. His lucky that the Privilege Committee only wanted to suspend him over 10 days. Compared to others who was fined, lost their careers and couldn’t visit their loved ones during the lockdowns. I would say that he got off the hook easily. There is so many others who couldn’t visit funerals, care-homes or even say the final goodbyes. While he was drinking wine and enjoying the perks of his office at the office.

Seriously, it is despicable that he now wants to go on a rampage against his successor. You can say a lot of things about Rishi Sunak, but doing this now is all a political gambit. The Privilege Committee had to do this after the findings. If the Committee didn’t issue anything of sorts, then they wouldn’t seem legit or be within the realm of codes of conduct.

We know that Johnson doesn’t value the Nolan Principles or anything else for that matter. As long as it was benefiting him. He could care less about others. As PM he wanted to wine-and-dine. In Office he wanted to live large and get the best of life. That’s why he did it and he took it all for granted. Even the long vacations to the Caribbean on the dime of donors is saying it all.

That Boris ends his tenure and time as MP is telling. It ended because he was reckless and didn’t follow codes. He was able to rise to power and gain influence by populist means. These populist ideals are dwindling and becoming less of sought after. Because, at this very moment of time… the things he did in office and the acts have ramifications. The costs and burden of Brexit is happening now. Businesses are hit and some are going bankrupt, because they cannot trade as easily with Europe. Two companies I know have either stopped or ceased their operations completely. I used to use them too, but now it is impossible. That’s all thanks to the mighty Johnson and the Oven Ready Brexit.

The ones thinking this is the final nail in the coffin of Boris Johnson’s career. I wouldn’t sign him off that easily. He can use his titles, previous offices and ability to create a new avenue for himself. Regardless of what sort of charlatan he really is. We have seen how Tony Blair is operating as a PR Guru for dictators across the Globe. Maybe, these two should join forces and earn even more “dirty” money together.

I was happy seeing Boris ending his career and practically calling for a By-Election. Not that it will matter in the grand scheme of things. It will fizzle out. However, Boris will not be remembered kindly. Neither as MP or as a PM. He might think of himself highly, but that is his own impression of himself. Boris is a Farage sort of politician and he should just accept that.

Boris, you will not be missed by the likes of me. The self-centred and for profit politics are no good. Instead of serving the community and the kingdom at large. You choose the path of enriching and enlarging your own image. In the end, that’s why you have less friends and less allies. Because when the storm hit. They knew they couldn’t rely on you, but instead had to ditch you. Peace.
