Pakistan: Pakistan Ex Servicemen Society – Press Release (23.05.2022)

“Amhara Regional State Peace and Security Bureau chief, Desalegn Tassew, said 4,552suspects have been arrested in connection with the ongoing “rule of law operation” in the region since a week ago. Of these, more than 1,780 are suspects who failed to discharge their public duties, including members of the regional security forces. The Bureau Chief also said “the suspects arrested also include those suspected of using social media, both inside and outside the region, “to further destabilize the region,” Desalegn said. He told state media that efforts were underway “to ensure the peace and security of the people of the state.” and as part of the government’s efforts “in preventing illegal activities, ensuring the rule of law and ensuring public safety.” He also said that the detained individuals were suspected of implementing a mission from inside and outside the country during the military attack by Tigrayan forces in the regional state” (Addis Standard – ‘News: Amhara state security detain more than 4,000 in ongoing crackdown’ 23.05.2022).
The people of Amhara and the region as a whole gets a taste of the unifying approach, which have been prevalent in every other corner of the Republic during Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. The “Medemer Terror” is now reaching the homes, the villages and cities of Amhara region. Just as it has been served in Oromia, Ogaden, Afar and Tigray region. No one is untouchable and now the Amhara nationalists who was behind it. Are now seeing the efforts turned on them.
The Amhara which has been vital in the warfare in the Western Tigray and in the invasion of Tigray region in November 2020. They are now meeting the same authorities and getting apprehended, as it has occurred to other nationalities and political groups in the Republic. They are feeling what the Ogaden, Oromia and Tigray have felt for years now. The same blunt force and retribution towards the ones called “enemies of the state”.
The Prosperity Party of Amhara is now using the same disguise of “law and order” to replicate and issue orders of mass-arrests. Detaining youths and militia members of “Fano”. Also members of the media and activists who has fought with the state previously, but have turned critical. As they have stopped fighting directly for the causes of the Amhara nationalists. That’s why even the National Movement of Amhara (NaMA) has been targeted and members have been detained of late.
The region of Amhara is just feeling the blunt and relentless policies which has been inflicted elsewhere. As the Amhara has been behind it all along and supported it as “uniting” Ethiopia. Alas, now they are getting the backstabbing and the retaliation towards the ones that isn’t complying or willing to follow the one-party-line. That’s why they are getting targeted like the Oromo Querro has been and other groups, which the state has deemed unfit at one point or another. Now, the same treatment is going to Gondar or Bahir Dar. Certainly, the allies and close connected to the state will feel betrayed.
However, they accepted this when it happened in the other regions. When the other regions was burning and in dire need. The Amhara was spiteful and saying they should just die or follow suit. Now they should listen to their own previous pleas and make consider their stances. Since, they are seeing what the Federal Government is willing to do and what sort of state they have vouching for. The chickens has come home to roost.
This is injustice, but they know perfectly well what the “Fano” has done for months upon end in Tigray or elsewhere where they have been deployed. Therefore, the retaliation from the state is self-serving. It is going after a former ally, which was useful in the invasion and a power-house for it to use.
Now, the tides are turning and we can wonder what transpired to make this all happen. Because, it seems all good just a week ago… Peace.

On Saturday, the revolutionaries of Omdurman went out in processions, announcing a revolutionary escalation against the coup and its consequences, and their destination was Al-Azhari Roundabout.
The processions, as usual, were met with extreme violence by the forces of the military coup authorities, where a large number of weapons were used in the face of the peaceful processions, including live bullets and Shotgun, which resulted in a large number of casualties among the Omdurman revolutionaries, some of whom were serious, leading to the revolutionary Muhammad Khalis’ martyrdom.
Thus, the number of martyrs since the coup of October 25 has reached 96 martyr, all of whom were murdered by the same individuals who never ceased shedding the blood of the Sudanese in order to maintain power and protect the interests of the forces of darkness.
Tomorrow, we will go out again to continue confronting the coup through our peaceful resistance in the procession (Omdurman will not be broken) at 3:00 pm. The assembly point for the East Khartoum processions will be :
Processions start from Al Firdus intersection
Final destination at Al Mashtal Street

Just as Dr. Kizza Besigye got arrested for stepping out of his compound in Kasangati, Wakiso district. His detained in a police van outside his home by the Police Force, as he planned to continue his demonstrations and protests against the rising commodity prices.
So, as that happened, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and associates of Besigye wanted to show him support and help his cause. Today this was Anna Adeke MP and Joan Acom Alobo MP who themselves got arrested for showing up. They were apprehended and taken to Kasangati Police Station. Where they are currently detained.
These two MPs was arrested for going to Besigye. They did not participate in any protest, demonstration or an illegal gathering. No, they were visiting a fellow political leader and a party associate. Which they are all a part of. Therefore, this is a questionable arrest at best and should be hard to explain. As they were not violent or came with weapons. Neither did they bring a rowdy crowd. They just came as citizens and fellow politicians.
This is a pre-emptive arrest without any justification or reasoning. Only showing what sort of state of affairs the Republic is in. As two MPs are so easily apprehended and taken into custody. Without them doing any other thing than planning to drop by Besigye. Peace.

“Police has blocked Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye, as he attempted to resume his ‘Muzukuke’ campaign aimed at reawakening Ugandans to stand up and protest against the skyrocketing commodity prices” (NBS Television, 23.05.2022).
“UPDATE: Dr. Kizza Besigye blocked by Police again. The former FDC presidential candidate was planning to resume his “Wake Up Call” campaign in protest of high commodity prices” (NYCE TV, 23.05.2022).
We are seeing it again and again, that the activist and political leader Dr. Kizza Besigye is violently and brutally arrested outside his compound in Kasangati, Wakiso district. This is a common occurrence and only shows with the swift impunity the state authorities reacts to his every move.
They will cite the Public Order Management Act (POMA) and say it’s illegal gatherings, demonstrations and whatnot. That is what the state does and they claims it to be pre-emptive arrests. As they have certain intelligence to prove a worry or a possible destruction of public order. Alas, that is never proven or the alleged possibility doesn’t happen, because his not allowed by the Constitutional Order to protest or demonstrate, which the POMA law is countering.
“Former presidential candidate Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye has been arrested after he attempted to leave his home in Kasangati, Wakiso district. Dr. Besigye is currently detained in a police van. Dr. Besigye, who is currently the People’s Front for Transition leader, was heading to Kasangati town to resume his protests against the high commodity prices” (NBS Television, 22.05.2022).
So, right now his behind bars inside a vehicle close to his home. Just because he wants to fight for righteous prices and worried about people not affording basic commodities. That is clearly illegal by the state and the oppression is on high alert.
This is just tragic … that Besigye is treated this way and it’s never ending story. His fighting for just causes, but met with a brutal force of injustice. Peace.

“To use frugally these imported items (kukekereza, kwereembareemba) or kubyesonyiwa (get alternatives)” – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (22.05.2022).
Cassava. Cassava. Cassava. Well, here we are and things are not changing. The Head of State came with his history lecture, but he says he fixed everything since 1986, but the problems are always returning. Things are never stable enough or ability to permanently find solutions. That’s why even the “revolutionary” man and His Excellency is living large. The same does all his cronies and it’s really unique that a man who has all the wealth and all the power. To say to the citizens to not by imported items and switch to cassava.
Just read these lines in 2022:
“The struggle between the two lines, therefore, was as follows: the revolutionary side (our side) pointed out that what was primary was to avoid death (massive death – ekyorezo), all other problems notwithstanding. The reactionary line was to emphasize the loss of jobs, loss of businesses, loss of school time, pregnancies of young girls, etc. Our line was that ebizibu (problems) are not equal (comparable) to death (okufa). Death is irreversible, while problems are reversible at the appropriate time. “Ekitatta Muhima, tekimumalako ente”, we say in Luganda (if a Muhima does not die, even if he loses cows, he will, in time, recover them)” (Museveni, 22.05.2022).
He is speaking well of the lockdowns and the stopping of society as he did for months during the global pandemic of late. Where the state had no emergency or contingency plans to help their citizens. There was a lack of support and the price of survival must have been really hard on the citizens living hand-to-mouth. As there is only one elite who could work from home. The day-traders and the ones living of their hands couldn’t do that directly. That was why so many was hurting.
Now, he speaks of the revolutionary line, as the NRM is far from that now. They have become the elites and the bourgeois who is eating of the plights of the rest. The President will not say that, but his staleworths, associates and all in collective is living large while the rest is struggling. That’s why his speaking like this. Because, it is so easy on the throne and when you especially doesn’t come with solutions, but let the people fix it for themselves. That’s the “revolution” his bringing… and he is clearly not on point with the needs of the people anymore. As their plights and the trouble to afford basic commodities isn’t going away and he choses to nothing about it. Since it is only a problem, but he don’t won’t to solve it. As it is not about survival…
He continues:
“Again, here, we confront the struggle between the two lines: the revolutionary, patriotic line of the truth and seriousness on the one hand and the reactionary line of populism, cheap popularity and lack of realism of: prices-control by Government, subsidies, tax cuts on the other hand. Although this is not as serious as covid-19, the choices here, are also with serious implications. It is a choice between okubandama (collapse) of the economy on the one hand or survival (kwetaasa, kuhonoka). The real medicine for high prices and shortages, is increased production. Produce more, if you can” (Museveni, 22.05.2022).
It is really clear that his trying a balancing act, but it’s far from revolutionary at this point. It is being relaxed about the trouble and issues of the people. Instead of supporting and finding means to an end for the mwannachi. He prefers to look silently by and hoping the resilience of the people will linger on. Neither is his fearing uprisings or major demonstrations. Because, the “bread and circus” is working. Secondly, there is enough to keep people content with bare minimum. While the people should afford a bar of soap or cooking oil. The loaf of bread is just a proof that the society is weakening and the middle-class is dying too. There is only the rich who is connected to the government and their inner-circles. The businesses are thriving because of connections and suction from associates of the state. The rest has to fight and struggle.
He speaks of producing more, but who is buying and how are you selling that? When people cannot afford things to begin with. That will only benefit the traders who are exporting and not the people who cannot earn enough to pay the increased prices. Especially, when the state isn’t planning to help to regulate or subsidies imports of certain products. Neither, can certain products be produced at a massive scale for a reasonable price over night either. So, the President here is really naive or if not. Ignorant on the facts and what this really do. Its more Cassave and less wheat all over again…
“In conclusion, I repeat that the only, really, serious dangers to our future are: reliance on only rain-fed agriculture; damage to our environment; and a nuclear-war among the mistake-makers” (Museveni, 22.05.2022).
Well… there you have it. This is the vital parts of the speech, because the rest was more history lessons and not relevant for today. That’s why I have only these paragraphs. He just shows what his asking for the public. You have to figure it out and if not use less soap. If not someone has to start production in Namanve or Luzira for that matter.
Museveni promised a “Steady Progress” and “Securing Your Future” but in this speech. He never really meant these things. Because, he is leaving people to fight for themselves. Since he has no incentive or reasons to do things. That’s for a simple reason. He don’t fear retribution or a revolution against him. As the President for 36 years… he hopes he has dozed people off so much. That they will never care to turn against him in the streets, avenues or in the villages. Even if they can’t afford basic commodities. Peace.
