Zimbabwe Nurses Association: Zimbabwe Nurses Association Position on Suspension of Incapacitated Teachers (11.02.2022)

“Lemme hear all the guys say… kikankane! Lemme hear all the chics say… kikankane!
Kyo kikakikakikakika… kikankane! Kyo kikakikakika… leka kikankane!
Maama wo kyeyakuwa leka… kikankane! Taata wo kyeyakuwa leka… kikankane!
Beyi nene mu kizimbe… kikankane! Kyo kikakikakika… leka kikankane!” – GNL Zamba – ‘Kikankane’
Well… here we go again… and this is tragicomedy at it’s finest. Yesterday President Yoweri Tiburhurwa Kaguta Musevei was presented with 91 individuals from the “Kikankane” chapter/group/unit of the National Unity Platform (NUP). Alas, the non-existent entity was proclaimed by Col. Charles Oluka, the Director General of Internal Security Organisation (ISO) who claimed these fellow citizens participated in the November 2021 riots in Kampala. Alas, that is the evidence, which the President was resided with and spread his message about.
However, NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD about this group. This is not like the P10 of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). This isn’t one of the many sub-groups and NRM organizations, which has various of extent and functions. It isn’t a hidden Poor Youth or Yellow Brigade. No, this is a made up function of people from God knows where and all for propaganda purposes.
It must be hard living on lies and fictitious events like these. Where nothing is real and stage a play for the cameras. That must be tiring, as he evidently pulled on a display and tried to make this a publicity stunt. Like the old man with the hat, the another rap and mzee had the capacity to get this people to change from NUP to the NRM.
Well, if it isn’t GNL Zamba, than it might be the rally driver Duncan Mubiru aka Kikankane who has inspired these folks, because it is certainly not the NUP. They were all in army fatigue and well prepared for the display yesterday. It all seems a bit well rehearsed and planned effort. That’s why ISO colonel knew how to pin-point them directly.
You can wonder if these people believes the words coming out of their mouths or they just join along for the team. We cannot make the President look like a fool. So let’s just dance along to his silly tune and get fed for once. Who knows where these people came from and for what other reason than making the President for Life looking foolish.
When you are making up stories and want to sell them. At least make it believable and how some touch with reality. Have some common sense and don’t make something up that is to good to be true. Because when you do that, it is most likely a lie. If it is the truth, you don’t have to lie about it, but just have to spell it out.
These folks can be LDUs or street vendors who has been kicked out of the streets of Kampala lately and had no where else to go. Who knows?
What we do know at this point… is that GNL Zamba and Duncan Mubiru should feel offended to use their song and nickname for jokes… because that’s it and it’s skit.
Teacher Mpamire, where are you when we need you? Peace.

Last Tuesday, regulars assaulted medical staff at El Fasher Specialized Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology in North Darfur state while performing their work, and drew weapons without appreciating the conditions patients, or in observance of the sanctity of hospitals.
Immediately, the doctors entered the hospital on a comprehensive strike until their demands of providing security, arresting the perpetrators and implementing the Medical Personnel Protection Law, and after the State Security Committee committed to arresting the perpetrators within three hours and implementing the rest of the demands within a week, the strike for emergency cases was lifted, but the state authorities did not abide by their pledge, so that the doctors returned and announced a comprehensive strike in all state hospitals.
The regulars kept repeating this phenomenon in this hospital, because they incur punishment every time, and their manners worsened after each attack, the assault that often what is met with negligence by the state authorities, whose reaction to each incident of assault reflects the fact that the regulars are excluded from issuing arrest warrants and writing criminal reports against them, which puts the lives of patients at risk.
We note that during the past two years, the rate of assault on medical personnel in the state has increased, in every incident, follow-up committees are formed, and the authorities are not obligated to bring the perpetrators to justice, and all of this goes unheeded without these authorities justifying a covenant or an oath.
The coup d’état that absented all the state’s organs and its judicial and service institutions; It is responsible for all these health and humanitarian disasters that happen to our people, it puts the lives of medical staff and patients of our people at stake, and most of these attacks are perpetrated by those who are responsible for providing security.
We in the Unified Office believe in the justice of the cause of doctors and other medical staff in North Darfur. We affirm the following:
1- The state authorities should immediately arrest the perpetrators after they are confirmed we have that they are known to have a hospitalized patient and that was documented at the moment of the assault.
2- We invite all the medical cadres in the state to stand in solidarity with its cause by engaging in a cold case strike in all the state’s health institutions, including private hospitals and private clinics. To lobby to expedite the legal process process.
3- We hope that all medical cadres in all other states of Sudan will show solidarity with this incident in the ways they deem appropriate to put them in the state and coordinate it.

FAO senior officials visit affected areas in the rush to save lives and livelihoods.
NAIROBI, Kenya, February 11, 2022 – An extended, multi-season drought is driving acute food insecurity in the Horn of Africa, with 12 to 14 million people now at risk as crops continue to wither and animals weaken, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and partners warned today.
Resource-based conflicts are escalating as competition for water and pasturelands increases, and malnutrition rates are rising in affected areas of Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia, highlighting the need to sustain the rural livelihoods that underpin peace and food security across the Horn.
At a briefing to international donors in Nairobi, FAO and its partners reported that the food security outlook in the region will be highly dependent on the performance of the upcoming rainy season, with forecasts currently uncertain.
In a worst-case scenario in which the rains completely fail and agricultural-dependent communities do not receive adequate support, the number of highly food insecure people could climb to 15-20 million – with some worst-affected households facing “catastrophic” hunger conditions.
“Drought cycles are intensifying and occurring with greater frequency. Immediate humanitarian action to support farmers and herders is needed now,” said Bechdol, after visiting Kenyan communities where goats and cows are dying from lack of water and pasture. “The international community has a narrow window to prevent a major humanitarian catastrophe here,” she said.
“Alarm bells have already been rung – scaled-up action is needed now,” said Phiri. “FAO carried out anticipatory actions during the latter half of 2021 in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia to mitigate the impacts of drought on over one million rural people and so far a crisis has been mitigated. But much more is needed as the situation deteriorates and as crisis looms,” he said.
A plan to help rural families cope
Under FAO’s new Horn of Africa Drought Response Plan, $130 million is urgently needed to provide time-critical assistance to highly vulnerable communities in drought-hit regions of the three countries. The plan supports the production of up to 90 million litres of milk and up to 40 000 tonnes of staple food crops in the first part of 2022, putting over one million highly-food insecure people on a safe footing.
For pastoralist families, FAO aims to deliver animal feed and nutritional supplements, provide mobile veterinary health clinics, transport 10 000 litre collapsible water reservoirs to remote areas, and upgrade existing wells to run on solar power.
For farming families, FAO aims to distribute drought-tolerant early-maturing varieties of sorghum, maize, cowpea and other beans and vegetables.
FAO is also carrying out cash transfers and cash-for-work programmes to ensure the most vulnerable can access food.
Additional new analysis published on Thursday from the Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit (FSNAU) for Somalia, hosted by FAO, shows that in Somalia alone, the number of acutely food insecure people (IPC Phase 3 and 4) is expected to increase from 3.5 to 4.1 million between January and March 2022, if humanitarian assistance is not received on time.
FAO’s Deputy Director-General, Beth Bechdol; Subregional Coordinator for Eastern Africa, David Phiri; and Director of Emergencies and Resilience, Rein Paulsen have just completed a visit to Kenya to raise awareness on the drought and see FAO’s vital response in action, including in Isiolo and Marsabit counties in the north.

Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa’s letter dated 10th February 2022 on the censure of Security Minister Jim Muhwezi is a failure and an epic blow of a defence of it’s own. We know that Tayebwa is using all means to defend the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the majority party in Parliament.
First reason of the Chief Whip is that it’s politically motivated. Well, if things aren’t politically motivated in Parliament. I don’t know where else the Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga should act politically. Secondly, the Chief Whip knows the reason and that’s because of how the state operates in concerns with the usage of torture. The LoP does this as answer towards the inaction and continues usage of it towards citizens, opposition and dissidents in general. When calling it politically motivated, it is degrading the urgency of the censure in the first place.
When he continues that the Government doesn’t have torture as a policy. We still doesn’t see any stoppage of the usage of it. Neither is there any actions towards the safe-houses and the security agencies, which is involved in the torturing of people. The government haven’t gone after the ones ordering or ensuring the act to happen. It is just downplaying and disregarding it, which he does in his letter to NRM MPs of the 11th Parliament.
In the last paragraph of the first page, he calls the censure a planned way to keep Muhwezi relevant in the media and a “blackmailing our government”. Which is very striking… The LoP is doing his job and what his supposed to do. His supposed to test, prove and challenge the government on what it does. His not a puppeteer only dancing to the songs of the NRM. However, that is the only thing Tayebwa knows and that’s evident.
On the beginning on the second page, Tayebwa says something very revealing and shows his sentiments: “As the NRM family in the House, an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us”. He is speaking with similar way as the President. This just shows the NRA Way and it’s evident. As the NRM should as a governing party be held accountable for their actions, but the Chief Whip cannot manage or muster the courage to do that.
Yes, I never believed in the censure of Muhwezi from Mpuuga, but not because the intention isn’t good, but because it is. However, Mpuuga will not win this and I don’t think that’s the way it will go out anyway. As Tayebwa and the NRM has no plans to listen or understand the grievances of the opposition. That’s because Tayebwa and his party takes this way to personal. When they are the ones who are torturing and doing injustice on the regular to civilians without any proper court judgment or even charging they are violating their rights. Therefore, Tayebwa is forgetting this piece of information and reality of which too many people have lived through.
Tayebwa should be better, but I think that’s to much to ask. His one of them and it’s very evident. He wants to die on a hill of impunity and injustice, instead of trying to be sincere. Because, he knows if these things was tested or investigated properly. It would be earth shattering and the extent of the usage of it would tarnish the whole party and government. They cannot muster the courage to be upright about themselves. This is why this is a personal attack on the party and the whole family.
They can claim and alleged torture is happening, but it’s been part of the Modus Operandi since they took power in January 1986. It has been a tool and a way of spreading fear in the population to be loyal to the cause and it’s President. Peace.
