Malawi: 6 NGOs Joint Press Statement – President Chakwera and his MCP are a Threat to Democracy (13.12.2021)

If you know, now you know. This is becoming the live tale of the ancient proverb: “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. If not Niccolò Machiavelli would be proud of the propaganda and the state apparatus of Addis Ababa. They are working on overtime with allegations, pseudo-sciences, and conspiracy theories, which is totally out of this world(!)?
The Prosperity Party and their affiliates are clearly working on stand-by and making up headlines, as the neighbours and Ministries abroad must refute. This is not good move or diplomatic for that matter. Claiming the foreign governments are supporting adversaries of the government, which are working to overthrow the current regime. That is a bad look and when it’s addressed. It only shows that the PP is on a fishing expedition and trying to find someone to blame for their losses.
Just look at this from Sudan and South Sudan.
Sudan:
“Hereunder SUNA publishes unofficial translation of the text of the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:- “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan followed up with astonishment the news published by the Ethiopian state Fana Broadcasting Corporate on December 9, 2021, in which it accused Sudan of supporting the Tigray Liberation Front, and also claimed that Sudan harbored and trained elements of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front to confront the Ethiopian government forces. In the face of these arbitrary allegations that are contrary to the truth, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to affirm Sudan’s full commitment to the principles of good neighborliness and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and that what was reported by Fana agency is absolutely untrue and baseless. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan also calls on Ethiopia to stop accusing Sudan of taking aggressive stances and practices that are not supported by evidence on the ground, and would like to affirm that Sudan controls all of its internationally recognized territories and borders with neighboring Ethiopia, and has never, and will never, allow its use for any aggression.”” (Sudan News Agency – ‘Sudan denies Ethiopian accusations’ 12.12.2021, SUNA)
South Sudan:
“Addressing the media last Friday, Michael Makuei, Minister of Information who doubles as Government Spokesperson said the government of South Sudan has no ill intention to work against the Ethiopian government. He said the Federal Republic of Ethiopia had contributed during the struggle that resulted in South Sudan’s independence. “The people and the government of Ethiopia all these years have been standing with us and without the Ethiopians and the government, we would have not been independent today. So there is no way whereby we can say we are supporting the rebels to overthrow the system in Ethiopia,” Makuei said. “Not only that but even if what are our resources if we are unable even to graduate our forces now because of the absence of arms, should we give arms to the rebels and leave our forces,” he asked” (…) “This we have to make it very clear and assure the government of Ethiopia that we are with them, that we are with the government and the people of Ethiopia and we will never work against them in any way.” (Jenifer Keji – ‘South Sudan denies backing TPLF rebels’ 13.12.2021, The City Review).
What is striking is that the party press of the Prosperity Party is inciting this. That the state media is coming with reports and articles claiming Sudan and South Sudan governments are supporting the adversaries in the conflict. That is striking and sends waves. It shows what sort of messaging and propaganda they produce. When these sorts of conspiracy theories get headlines and stories in the press. While the neighbours have to dismiss and refute the messages spread, because they know it isn’t true.
The most ironic thing about it, is that the regime in Addis Ababa have foreigners supplying drones, weapons, and technical expertise. The Addis Ababa regime have needed the support of Eritrean troops and intelligence. Therefore, the ones conspiring with foreigners to overcome an obstacle is during power and not the ones trying to take it down. That is the ironies of life and this conflict. And we know that the leadership of Addis has projected every sin and every claim of what they have been doing upon others. The sins they are committing is always others to blame and use as a shield.
Nevertheless, this saga will continue, and the PP cannot contain itself. This is what they do and what they are known for. Peace.

The Tigray Defence Force (TDF) have returned and taken over Lalibela in North Wollo in the Amhara region. This is happening after the Ethiopian National Defence Force (ENDF) and their allies took over the UNESCO heritage site on the 1st December 2021. They just held the territory for 11 days before the TDF returned. Clearly, the ENDF and the tripartite alliance wasn’t that strong.
This is a sign of the war is far from over. As the last two weeks has been filled with victories and territory going back into the hands of the state. The Prime Minister just proclaimed on the 8th December 2021 that the first phase of “Operation for National Unity in Diversity”. Which was a reason for him to return to the office and celebrate the reason victories.
That TDF is returning this quickly shows the weaknesses of ENDF and their allies, which is the Eritrean Defence Force (EDF) and Amhara Para-Military Group “Fano”. They also have the regional special forces doing their bidding too. Not to forget the civilians who are turning into combatants when the TDF enters a territory.
What is clear now is that the ENDF doesn’t have total control, neither is their front-lines solid. If it was the TDF wouldn’t have turned Lalibela this quickly. Agew Liberation Front (ALF) was also participating here and this show local resilience against the central government. Therefore, it isn’t only the TDF doing this.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali ‘counteroffensive’ is already contested, as it can this easily be returned. I wasn’t thinking the TDF would get this far so quickly. Because, the ENDF and allies seemed to be rushing into Mekelle soon. As they were getting closer to the borders of Tigray region. Not only blocking the TDF entering Afar region, but loosing all territory in Amhara region.
Now the TDF has taken control in the zone of North Wollo and Lalibela. That shows the Tripartite Alliance isn’t as strong as they made it out to be. The TDF has humiliated them and shown strength. The ENDF, Fano and EDF isn’t able to hold territory. That is obvious and this war will be long. Not a brief and quick operation. However, this will take time.
What will be striking how the TDF … and their allies moves ahead. As the ENDF and allies are using drones and air-force to defeat the guerrilla tactics. They are using conventional methods, while TDF are using other means to their end. Peace.

“It must be written in this unedited book of history that; we chose the bold path over the popular path. The Lion is “…not the strongest animal in the Savannah. Neither is it the biggest. Neither is it the shrewdest. But, it is the boldest”. And this attitude of boldness is what makes the lion, the King of the Jungle. Indeed, this is the reason it is said that “…an army of sheep led by a lion can defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.”” (Uhuru Kenyatta – Jamhuri Day Speech 2021, 12.12.2021).
Today at the 57th Jamhuri Day celebration at the Uhuru Gardens. The speech President Uhuru Kenyatta held and his action afterwards proves what has been the unwritten fact for a while. This isn’t shocking, but a mere reality for everyone to see.
The Handshake and Building Bridges Initiative for National Unity (BBI) have mended not only bridges, but has ensured the alliance of Kenyatta-Ruto to stifle totally. The Deputy President William Ruto has been dismissed and is an open opposition in the middle of the government. He is part of Jubilee, but working to build another party on the outside. While the President is busy proclaiming and supporting the unopposed and unannounced second in command, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
Now, the Jubilee Party and the ones behind Kenyatta is clearly signing off for Odinga. This is clear and the ambition is there. As Odinga got to speak at the stadium after the President. Breaking with protocol and showing the clear intentions. Not only what he said in his speech.
Just read this…. this is the green-light!
“And when the former Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga and I shook hands on March 8th, 2018, it was because we saw a crack on the wall of our nation. We had run two elections that costed the country Sh1 trillion in business loses and we were staring at a nation divided right in the middle. Because we had disagreed respectfully, we knew that this was a mark of progress. It was difficult, but the necessity, the reason and the recognition that we as Kenyans needed each other, nation before self, as our forefathers had taught us to come together, reinforced our resolve. Therefore, the need to come together and mend the crack on the wall of our nation necessitated the first amendment to our Constitution. And although it encountered some legal obstacles, I can only say that BBI is just a dream deferred. One day, someday, it will happen, because the country cannot survive ethnic majoritarianism and exclusion just as it cannot survive unfair and skewed representation. This is a design defect that we must fix” (Uhuru Kenyatta – Jamhuri Day Speech 2021, 12.12.2021).
We can now clearly resolve that Kenyatta and his allies are behind Odinga. The dynasties and the ones who are connected is working for that. This isn’t shocking, but has been anticipated for a long time now.
It has been clear for anyone who has been following the President and his team. That they have favoured Odinga over Ruto. Even if Ruto is his deputy and been his running mate in two elections. Odinga have been the opposition and main candidate against him.
This shows that nothing is lasting forever in the political landscape. Because, Odinga should be a natural opponent, but we know that isn’t the case. As Kenyatta and Odinga have worked closely with the BBI and been working mates because of that. This has issued a relations and brought peace between them. Which has caused friction and a fallout between Kenyatta and Ruto.
That’s what is visible here and nobody should be in shock or awe. This is preparation for the dynasties to be aligned before the 2022 elections. It is to continue the cartels and ensure the state works like it does.
If Ruto ever needed a reassurance or knowledge of the machinery behind him. Well, he doesn’t have that, but Odinga will have it now. The state and the powerful will make Odinga into an angel and a saint. He will be going on bridges of gold and have Midas touch.
Odinga is the man to look out for now. He has struggled and paid a huge price. The BBI and the handshake salvaged his position. Now, the opposition and the ones who was in alliance with him has been searching for a home. Now, the CORD/NASA co-principals has to find their way too. If Kalonzo, Mudavadi or Wetan’gula will either find a new home or a new head to work with. These has to either go alone or join either of them.
Odinga don’t need the NASA co-principals this time around. He has the machine behind him and Kenyatta salutes that. Therefore, time will tell how the rest of this will play out. However, this is the preparation … for the election and the everyone should be aware if it was to subtle to see it for what it is. Peace.

“The First Vice President has suggested for the change of the country’s name from South Sudan to the People’s Republic of Sudan. On 23 January 2011, members of a steering committee on post-independence governing body announced that upon independence the land would be named the Republic of South Sudan “out of familiarity and convenience”” (…) “However Dr. Riek Machar now argues that, “South” is not a name but rather a direction” (…) “Dr. Riek personally suggested that, the People’s Republic of Sudan would match the originality of the Sudan in relation to its history with the people. “So we will debate it what is it that we want to call ourselves. I hope you will accept my People’s Republic of Sudan”, Dr. Riek stated” (Emmanuel Woja – ‘Dr. Riek suggest for change of “South Sudan” name’ 11.12.2021, Eye Radio).
The FVP Dr. Riek Machar of South Sudan has now uttered the need for revising the name of the Republic of South Sudan. That there is a need to change it, because the “South” is only a direction and not really a name-sake for the child born in the year of 2011.
This is as useful the general public and the citizens, as the proposed move capital from Juba to Ramciel. Which have been announced in the past, but never happened. While the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and the mechanisms there needs to be moving forward.
We already know about the insecurity issues in some states. There is a lack of funds for basic commodities and natural disasters causing harm to thousands of civilians. It has been reports of both floods and droughts in various of areas, this will further escalate into famine and starvation, which is hurting the citizens directly. This is where the state and it’s agencies should ensure help and direction to the ones in need. However, most likely will be UN Organizations and NGOs covering it for them.
That’s why the FVP have the time and ability to think about the name-change. I am sure the general public would be more familiar with the Republic being called the Revitalized Republic of Sudan. Since, everything is with hard R in front of it. The government is the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) and all other institutions are filled with the hard R. So, it would make sense to use the HARD R in the name of the Republic too.
The People’s Republic just sound like a generic state name and the Republic of South Sudan has a flair. Unless, they might change it to Revitalized Republic of Sudan (RRS). Why haven’t the FVP been busy by changing his own party name first?
The SPLM/A-(IO) isn’t a friendly acronym and neither is the Sudan People’s Liberation Army/Movement – In Opposition. He should maybe rename it or decree it to become something else. As his not in opposition now, but part of the R-TGoNU. The FVP isn’t in opposition anymore and the name is lying.
FVP Machar needs guidance, maybe he should use his office to something useful. As the R-TGoNU isn’t able to pay it’s dues to Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). So the membership as a state is jeopardy for now. This is just what the government of South Sudan does.. the EAC have previously said the same too. So, the FVP should be focused on the daily chores and not changing names.
Unless, he wants to change the name of the SPLM/A-(IO) because that could have been a nice thing. However, don’t depend on it. He rather waste time on this… just like the ones spend time on Ramciel and not the trouble, which needs to be resolved. Peace.
