South Sudan: “We will return home when UNMISS and the government say we don’t need to be afraid anymore,” says displaced Tambura tradesperson (22.11.2021)

Mbiyo is one of the nearly 9,000 displaced people sheltering at the Temporary Operating Base set up by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan to restore some semblance of calm and stability.

TAMBURA, South Sudan, November 22, 2021 – Mbiyo Morgan is a tall man. In his early forties, he is a father, a husband, a farmer, a trader and a motorcycle mechanic. Like most others across South Sudan, Mbiyo wears many hats as he tries to put food on the table for his children.

His palms are darkened and rough, a testament to years of hard labour. But he was happy. At least till fighting erupted in Tambura, Western Equatoria, killing people and forcing tens of thousands to flee for their lives.

Today, Mbiyo is one of the nearly 9,000 displaced people sheltering at the Temporary Operating Base set up by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) to restore some semblance of calm and stability here.

“We have suffered for the last three months because of the fighting, the killing,” he says as he inspects a mechanical fault on a customer’s motorcycle.

Mbiyo has been returning to operate his small workshop, following a relative de-escalation of tensions in the area. He says he craves for the day he will be return his home. A home that is only some two kilometres away.

“There is very little to go back to though,” he muses. Many of the houses in his area have either been burnt down or broken into. “Our household property, food, clothes, they’re all gone. We have forgotten these things. Whatever we have on our backs is all we own now,” he adds almost philosophically but the pain of loss is evident.

He feels the situation is becoming safer everyday safer but is disappointed that there has only been a solitary food distribution exercise since he began sheltering at the UNMISS temporary base, though humanitarian partners are doing their best to scale up assistance.

The urgency behind Mbiyo’s apparent equanimity is real: His family is running out of food. “I did plant crops in my farm this year and they are almost ready to be harvested but I am afraid to travel to my land. I have responsibilities and my family cannot afford to lose me. At least, with the mechanical work I’m doing I can feed them once a day. If I die, they will starve,” he states simply but emphatically.

Meanwhile in Mambulu, ten kilometres away on the road to Yambio, a sinewy 35-year-old man has braved his fears and is out spreading some sorghum and beans on the ground to dry. His compound is badly in need of clearing, with pumpkins sprouting here and there.

Juma does not mind this, nor does he mind the overgrown weeds and bushes encroaching upon his once clean compound. He has been here for the last four days with his wife and three children, none older than 10, specifically to collect some food from the garden to feed them.

“My family and I fled to the South Sudan Peoples Defense Forces garrison in town,” he revealed, reminiscing about the days immediately following armed attacks in the area. “We are safe but there is no food, and one needs money to buy anything. I am here to get some food from the garden and will have to go back to the garrison,” he adds. Risks are calculated in terms of life versus death, says Juma. He adds that he took the risk of trekking back to his garden with his children because his family is currently more likely to die from hunger.

“We may need to come back here as a group with some of my neighbours so we can stay longer, but for now, we will have to walk back with the children and with as much food as we can carry,” he says.

The fighting has stopped for now and a fragile peace has returned to Tambura. Markets and some shops are open, and the main road, which was deserted till a couple of weeks ago, is cautiously showing signs of life.

At his shelter in the UNMISS base, Mbiyo gently rocks his four-month-old son, checking the boy’s temperature with a tender touch to the forehead. His child was barely a month old when the family had to flee home. “We will go back home when UNMISS says we can leave and the government says it is safe to return,” he says as he peels his eyes from his baby and looks to the setting sun and the long shadows cast by the UNMISS armoured vehicles guarding the base.

In the meantime, the clock is ticking as the crops await harvest and farmers run the risk of losing all their food. But people like Mbiyo and Juma will have to constantly assess their situation and live a day at a time, carefully keeping alive the flame of hope for a better tomorrow for their children.

Sudan: The Unified Office of Sudanese Doctors – Report on the Human rights violations to health facilities, medical personnel, and health care delivery made by the Sudanese Security Forces since October 25th. and (the day of the Military Coup) – (21.11.2021)

1. The National Blood Bank employees have been forcefully stopped from performing their duties on the 25th October.

2. On 26th. October, the Coup forces deprived five civilian detainees from receiving medical care at Eldaeen Hospital. They had pre-existing chronic illnesses and were unwell with COVID 19.

3. On 30th. October, wounded civilians were denied access to Omdurman Military Hospital.

4. On 30th. October, ambulances carrying wounded protesters, were violently stopped. This has also resulted in significant damages to the vehicles.

5. On 13th.November, military troops were put on roads leading to hospitals with the intention of stopping patients, who are victims of live ammunition and tear gas, from gaining access to medical care.

6.The Coup forces invaded and disturbed the delivery of medical services. Here we highlight, some examples of such malpractices that took place at the following hospitals:

– Elarbaeen Hospital in Omdurman city:

Accident & Emergency Department was invaded, and wounded civilians were arrested from inside the hospital, with the use of excessive physical and verbal abuse.

– Sharq Elneel Hospital in Khartoum City:

The Trauma and Emergency Department was invaded, doctors were body searched, and one doctor was arrested from inside the hospital with the use of excessive physical and verbal intimidation. The doctor was subsequently released later in the day.

Kassala Hospital was also violently invaded by the military coup forces, denying doctors access to the hospital in an attempt to abort a peaceful protest organized by Kassala Hospital Doctors on 15th November 2021.

On November 17th, Police forces fired tear gas inside Ahmed Qasim Hospital in Khartoum North.

On November the 21, Police forces fired tear gas inside Khartoum Teaching Hospital, right next to the intensive care unit and the neonatal department.

In the name of the Unified Office of Sudanese Doctors, we strongly condemn the massive violations of human rights that have occurred since the coup, especially those that have claimed the lives of dozens of civilians as they exercise their legitimate right to peaceful demonstration. In terms of our professional and moral duty, we also condemn depriving the injured and sick of access to health care and preventing the medical staff from performing their duties.

We appeal to the human rights organizations and the international community at large to show support and solidarity with the Sudanese people and take the appropriate actions.

Ethiopia: State Minister of Peace Dendea Aredo vilification of the USAID goes overboard…

The Prosperity Party and it’s allies are really going into conspiracy theories mode. They are making aid and humanitarian assistance into a war-effort into supporting the enemies of the state. This is the same state that has sent notices to diplomats, embassies, envoys and businesses in Addis Ababa to monitor all their communication equipment. So, that these can be registered and prove how they are using these. That shows that everyone can become criminal and the state conspires about everyone. That’s how paranoid the authorities are at this current time.

The state will prove it even further, as a minister will go after USAID, as the state his a part of has created a man-made famine and weaponized humanitarian assistance to the Tigray Region. There haven’t been a convoy coming to Tigray region for a month now and there been little to none of what the needs are. That is what the state does. The only thing his government does is either ethnic cleansing in Humera region and Western Tigray. If not they are using drones to bomb Mekelle. Therefore, this shows how vicious the regime is.

State Minister of Peace wrote this:

Fortunately, USAID is said to be leaving Ethiopia. The government’s refusal to open the Humera Corridor is the reason. According to Mrs Samantha Power, the leaving is to make the people of Ethiopia sense the force of USA! For Ethiopian patriots, this is huge opportunity! Just two important issues. One, USAID has been in Ethiopia for almost 30 years, but has changed literally nothing! Only created dependency attitude! Hence its leaving cannot negatively affect Ethiopians! In the contrary, it will motivate us to help ourselves” (Taye Dendea Aredo – ‘Bye USAID’ 21.11.2021).

Taye Dendea is a former blogger turned minister. So, he knows the written word and his written articles in defence of the government causes. Therefore, his now just pinning the “Wheat Aid” issues, which Abiy have in the past. Instead of using “wheat aid”, Aredo picks on USAID. It is not USAID fault that FDRE haven’t been developed. That is the central government and the ones in-charge over the years. To blame outside entities to give no agency to the ones in-charge. Just like Abiy have ability to do things and reform. However, he decided to go to war and it has cost him dearly. It has backfired, so now Minister like Aredo have to incriminate others. That is what they do.

The State Minister for Peace should ensure and secure the humanitarian assistance gets to the Tigray region. That way he gets to save lives and help people in dire need. However, he rather blame the USAID for the orders and the state blocking the convoys. The UN drivers and others have been targeted by his government. It says a lot, even with the knowledge of this. He still blames them.

Two, the aim of USAID has been mistakenly understood by many to be supporting the needy. Now it has become clear that USAID is trying to change regimes contrary to the will of the people! It is clearly saying “Because we feed you, we shall elect a government for you”. This is the worst insult for the people! Actually, it shows their ignorance about us! Ethiopians are not the types of people who exchange their freedom & independence for food!” (Taye Dendea Aredo – ‘Bye USAID’ 21.11.2021).

Here is the minister deliberately saying USAID plans to have regime change. They are planning to starve everyone and use the aid to destroy the regime itself. What is striking here … is that earlier the state blocked the aid and didn’t allow the aid in to the needy. Now, the USAID doesn’t want to give to the other needy. Than it is an issue and says a lot about Dendea Aredo. As he wants to save the other regions, but not the one, which have been targeted for over a year now. Amhara region and Afar region have also been hardly hit by the warfare. This is also regions where UN and USAID planned to intervene with humanitarian assistance. The US already donated extra for the efforts this year to USAID to help the additional ones who are suffering. Therefore, wherever the Minister of State is having his sources. It is clearly not in the public channels of information.

The FDRE and PP have decided to go rogue. It isn’t the USAID in this instance. The USAID have programs called OTI and they should cease to have them. These are the questionable that mentions “transition” and used the CIA to change governments in favour of the Washington DC agenda. However, in the case of Ethiopia in 2021. The problems, the structures and the internal conflict has spiralled out of control for PP, because it gambled on the weakness of its enemies. A gamble it is losing. It got nothing with OTI or USAID. Neither is it USAID fault that the UN organizations cannot deliver humanitarian assistance within Ethiopia. That is all Addis Ababa would is blocking and stopping them from operating.

This is why you know the State Minister of Peace is lying and conniving. This is to make the USAID a villain. Yes, the USAID and CIA has a shady history. However, right now… the innocent are dying just so Abiy and his allies could prove a point. The same government that arrests people for their ethnic background as well. So… this man of peace is doing this and still the problem is USAID. That says it all and how pathetic things have become. You can even wonder what Abiy was thinking to appoint a man like this. However, that just shows his crowd and what sort of people he has surrounding him. Peace.

Guinee: Inter Coalition Politque – Communique No. 001 (20.11.2021)

Opinion: Hamdok will now be a useless fool for the TMC

Today, Abdalla Hamdok signed an agreement with Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. This agreement is only buying the new Sovereign Council time, which is a rejuvenated Transitional Military Council (TMC). Al-Burhan and Hemeti has gotten it all for very little. Just keeping him detained for a month and reinstating him with lofty promises.

Hamdok is now a pawn. His a tool of the machinery. There is now no difference between him and the warlords of Darfur, which also joined the council. They are all just a broad amount of leaders, which all will follow the program. It is not like they can or have the ability to challenge Al-Burhan or Hemeti. They are the ones leading it anyway. Whatever promises made, rest assured, they will not be kept.

Hamdok can act like this a victory since his salvaging something. He is regaining some sort of role and position. However, that is meaningless and pointless when his just there to a make belief. His the civilian excuse of a technocrat to this here enterprise now. Hamdok is distancing himself from the FFC and SPA. Who are both saying this agreement isn’t it and this negotiation wasn’t their. Meaning Hamdok did it all by himself and not in connection with the other civilian stakeholders.

The possible reinstated Prime Minister will be a nice slay-queen and maybe trick a few donors. Heck, he might save the reputation and give the government legitimacy towards the African Union and other bodies, of which the Sudanese government got suspended from post 25th October 2021 coup d’etat.

If Hamdok believes he stopped the bloodshed and the killings of the state. Well, people are dying and the numbers of dead since the coup is rising. He has traded himself and is now a stooge for the keizan. That is who he is and he betrayed the revolution. That is the mere reality of this.

Hamdok can claim he did this to secure “stability” but at what cost and price? Does he believe the men who made a second coup will not betray him again? Is he really that stupid and trusts these army commanders? If he does… he is a fool and he will loose everything for doing it.

At this very moment… Hamdok has lost allies and people who was beside him in the battle for a civilian government. Now, Hamdok have traded that away for a temporary solution. The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) is getting the benefits and perks. While Hamdok has to eat all the vomit, which is served him from the army commanders. That is what Hamdok will do on a daily basis and call it a Michelin meal.

Hamdok has betrayed the revolution and the cause of which got him the office in the first place. He now is a renegade on his own. This is a choice he made and he now has to carry the consequences. His not a trustworthy fella, but yet another lackey of the army. Peace.
