Opinion: Hemeti will challenge the Gods

The Commander of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) the former Janjaweed, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemeti” is now challenging the state and the Sovereign Council. As he has not accepted to fully integrate the militia into the army.

RSP is already semi-autonomous, but by the act in government from 2017. The powers of the President can still command it. Therefore, the manner in which the law is created. It is creating a hard way to find ways to measure it. As it was an autonomous unit, but can be commanded by the President. This is maybe why the Sovereign Council and the Transitional Government want it under the same umbrella and not run as a separate outfit anymore. Especially, when the integrity and the power imbalance it might create.

The National Army is about 110,000 soldiers. While the RSF is about 20,000 militia men. Therefore, the size of RSF is substantial. Though, Hemeti is overplaying his hand here. Al-Burhan is the President (Chairman) of the Sovereign Council and Commander of the Armed Forces. By the laws of RSF Act of 2017. This means Al-Burhan can direct the RSF the way he see fit.

That means the RSF have to comply. The RSF Act was created for Al-Bashir’s wishes and whims. However, he is no longer the President and Commander-in-Chief. At this current time Al-Burhan runs as the President with Hamdok as the Prime Minister. Therefore, Hemeti which happens to be the Deputy of Al-Burhan doesn’t have the mandate to rebel against this.

Yes, the law is made in a way, which creates a lot of issues. Certainly, it was wilfully done so. In such a way that Al-Bashir could put all the blame on Hemeti and say he acted on his own merit. Instead of having to take responsibility for the actions made by the RSF in Darfur. Now, the same protocols are stifling the integration and furthering the process of a peaceful transition.

Hemeti doesn’t want to give up now. After years as a General and continued to rise to prominence. He has tried to make himself look more feasible and trade-off as a political broker. Still, everyone knows his past and willingness to dip into the coffers and get dirty. This man is willing to sell arms to Tchad or the Central African Republic. His willing to kill civilians and be a militia leader. So, it is not like his a man of protocol and a man of procedure. The RSF web page proves that as well.

Now, his willing to bet on the prestige and the ambition on his past. That he has the ability to overcome this obstacle and loose some sort of independence from the army. While the law, which he himself referred to recently. Is stating that the President can direct it and appoint it’s leadership. Meaning, if he Hemeti goes hard on this. Al-Burhan can in effect demote him and appoint someone else who is willing to accept the fate of the RSF in the SAF. That is just a mere fact and Hemeti should be aware of that himself.

His 20,000 combating a strong national army is a bloodshed in awaiting. Hemeti already have a war-torn Darfur and is known for his attacks on civilians there. Not like there is much love lost between the general public and the RSF. They still remember how the RSF was used to quell the revolution and civilians demonstrating against Al-Bashir. Therefore, he will not garner their love anytime soon.

This is why Hemeti should accept this plight. Swallow his pride and be happy that his even the Deputy in the Sovereign Council. That even with his horrific and depressing history, which he should have answered for in the court. The lives and the families he has hurt over the years. Still, he has rose to power and sitting at the high table. That man should feel lucky and not take this for granted.

Al-Burhan and the rest of the Sovereign Council is in it’s right to integrate and get the RSF into the SAF. That is just natural and not continue the agony of having it separate. Hemeti should understand that and just move-on. If he does… he will still have the reigns and be considered influential. However, if he gambles this all now.

Both the laws, the people and the Sovereign Council will dismiss him. There will be little to no redemption and what’s worse for him. That if they arrest him or start investigation of all of his acts during the years. The man will not see the light of day again. He will either be brought to court or get jail time. That is something you don’t want when you gotten this far…

However, Hemeti rather risk it, it seems and possibly loose it all. As he challenge the Gods, thinking they will forgive him. What a fool(!). This will only hurt him and he will not see it coming. Peace.

Opinion: Abiy continues his dangerous path

Let’s clear/get rid of the domestic traitors first before we deal with the foreign enemies” (…) “Traitors today, just like when Italians invaded us, who do not feel that they have done something or have succeeded unless they sell or attack their mother (country), have been identified as the weaknesses and enemies of Ethiopia’s prosperity” – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali (06.06.2021).

Yesterday, Prime Minister Abiy came out again with dangerous rhetoric, which only can signify his relentless attitude and will to destroy his opponents. However, this is a clear message and he says this days ahead of the polls.

The ones believing Abiy will be democratic or believe in democratic principles are naive. Sorry, they are not naive, but stupid. His a warlord and a uncrowned king. Who will reign with cruel authority and legitimize his tyranny. They have rebranded the previous coalition and made it into a one party, the Prosperity Party. This party will in general rule as a “one-man” party and run under the orders of the Prime Minister.

Abiy have already shown his willingness to get rid of his opposition. That is just to look at how far the Prime Minister and his allies are burning, starving and killing people in Tigray Region. Just to prove a point against the party, which wouldn’t sign into the decrees of Abiy or PP. That’s why he is willing to annihilate not only the party, but deploying scorched earth strategy there.

This is done while his accepting the skirmishes and raids in Afar region. His allowing the state to show a destructive and horrific acts towards the Somali in the Ogaden region. While he has continued the Command Post and further escalated the terror in Oromia. Where most of his opposition activists or leaders are either behind bars, killed or flogged in the streets. Therefore, the sort of quote from the PM only shows his heart.

Prime Minister Abiy clearly want the ones who defies him silenced. He rather want them dead or behind bars, than actually being able to challenge them head on. The PM will rather call them traitors or terrorists, than actually have any real opposition. This is why he has targeted both TPLF and OLF in the manner, which has in his unelected term.

The bloodshed, the internal conflict and use of force will not stop. Especially, when the PM is promoting this. This is just continuing the ravaging campaigns and prolonging the agony. There will be no silence of the guns, but silence of the defiant among the citizens in the Republic. The ones that dares to speak out or even utter comments, which the PM and his allies deems unfit. They will meet a judgement day and they most likely will not return home.

The rhetoric is only showing his ambition to rule as a tyrant and a warlord. He doesn’t care, as long as his opponents are dying in a ditch. He just want power and he ravish himself in it. The PM doesn’t care as long as he has it. If he uses para-military troops to kill the ones in his way, has the Eritrean army doing his bidding or the national army. As long as his goal is set and the ones in his path is cleared away.

So, this man will not let the violence cease. No, he will increase it. He will use the whole authority, all security agencies and all his allies at his disposal to get rid of the ones he deems unfit. It doesn’t matter if it is justified or not. As long as they are in his way. He just needs to get rid of them. One way or another.

In his mind… they shouldn’t have been there in the first place. It was all his and he is the man of the hour. Everyone else is just a bother and people who haven’t understood his significant right to rule. Peace.

Opinion: Museveni’s magic number is now 80

President Museveni has proposed to the NRM Caucus to introduce one more position for Minister of State to bring the total number of Ministers from 79 to 80. Motion passed by the caucus” (NBS Television, 07.06.2021).

A man with such a big entourage, amount of cronies and own high ranking officials. Are now extending this… by just one more person, but it is still ghastly how big the cabinet have become. The cabinet for the 11th Parliament will be 80, instead of 79. 79 was already ridiculous and to big to remember all the names. You cannot even remember all the titles or the Ministers itself

With this sort of big cabinet you need to Google it to even find the right one. You will remember a few and the ones who are inheriting their position from previous terms. This is like the Ministry of Finance and Development and Economic Development (MoFPED). Who has been the same fella for ages. Just like you cannot forget who is appointed as the Chairman to the Bank of Uganda. They have been there forever. The same can be said of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Therefore, there will be some things, which will not be surprising in the grand schemes of things.

Nevertheless, expect new faces and some from the opposition. If Museveni gets his way. He will try to pick someone from Democratic Party (DP), Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and even Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). That will be his dream to make it like a “unity” government, but they are all his loyal subject in cabinet and they are there because of him. That’s the grand scheme of things. The ones his appointing have already been favourable and hunting for relevancy around the President, but this will be the nail in the coffin.

It is really striking after the biggest gerrymandering effort in living memory. After boosting the parliament with such a grand amount of Members of Parliament. Where you have created a surplus of MPs and lack of space for them. Where the state have to rent expensive locations as offices and the plenary sessions cannot even be in the August House anymore. Because it is to small of house and it lacks space for them all.

At this point and time. You are adding additional Ministers. Just like the President have been adding Presidential Advisors and Appointees in the State House. He has so many people in his ear and on his payroll. That he is the biggest entrepreneur of the Republic. The personification of the state is hiring more people than his ever firing. His adding and adding without getting more revenue. That is how to run things to the ground and bankrupt.

There is no-one with a bright mind saying that 80 Ministers is a healthy cabinet. There isn’t even that many ministries or possible portfolios to operate. You have to create an issue out of thin-air and also create so small mandates and offices, which will make plenty of them redundant. They will just sign of the will of the state and catch the check before calling it a day. That is the blunt reality of it all.

The 80 Ministers cabinet is a mind-numbing and an expense that only serves the loyalist of the President. This will be another huge post on the budgets in the years to come. Just like the price of the all the MPs and their allowances. This is clearly an expenditure the state cannot afford, but is pending to pay.

Museveni is crippling the state. Little by little. Choice after choice. Soon there is no end to the greed. Soon there is no to new ways of sucking funds from the reserves and eat. Because, it is empty and nobody will lend the state a hand. Peace.
