“I am not going to be polite to people anymore. I normally show politeness but people don’t pick up” – Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Musveni (16.01.2021)
Yet again, another day and another National Address by General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Since his wearing military fatigue. I anticipate his in the role of General and not as President. This must be to intimidate even further. As his main opponent is under House-Arrest. Most of the opposition activists and mobilizers are behind bars. Therefore, the victory of 14th January 2021 is as hallow as it can be. Because, what sort of victory can you proclaim. When you have directly arrested, harassed and brutally attacked during the campaign period.
There is nothing today that makes this process legit or make it seem credible. This is an election heist. Because the President appoints the Electoral Commission, the authorities and has the armed forces behind him. If he didn’t appoint or command all parts of government these sorts of schemes would work. However, since its so embedded and the President can touch all parts of government and order it. That is why today happened and his glorious televised is happening during a internet, social media and media black-out. Which is vicious attempt to stop information from flowing and the sad reality of a stolen election.
“If you cannot go down and know the problems of the people then you cannot be a leader on our side. I have been following what has been happening. There is nothing I don’t know. I know who has been giving money to who. They were talking of a new Uganda and yet they wanted to bring back an old Uganda that failed. The Uganda of tribalism” – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (16.01.2021)
This is the sort of man he is. He speaks for instance of politeness. However, calling people parasites and insects isn’t a man who is polite. Neither is a man who uses the guns, the authorities and the state to oppress, arrest and torture civilians for their political affiliation. There is nowhere in the last few years where he has shown humility or even care for the general public. No, he rather see villages burn and people get destroyed for standing in his way. It is not like General Museveni is caring or even showing any sort of grace. He even getting old people on their knees while they beg to give him money. Was that polite of him? No, it wasn’t, but that’s who he is.
Again, he speaks also that his the oracle of the Republic. The man who knows everything. The only man with a vision. “There is nothing I don’t know”. Apparently, he has eyes and ears everywhere. The man who knows the insights to everyone and can assess their thoughts. However, if that was so. Maybe, he would have won an election and not rigged it. Maybe, if that was true. Maybe he would be smart enough to retire. If the old man knew everything. He wouldn’t still be running this charade and act a fool in a military fatigue.
You know his not a favourable person or a man of the people. When he had to state this: “ I told you that the riots will not happen and if they did try, they will be dealt with. Not like the other time when the police was caught by surprise” (Museveni, 16.01.2021).
Instead of understanding or taking accountability for the riots. As it was per his orders and his law enforcement that made it happen. His again going after the victims and the possible future victims. Because, it is never his fault that his overstaying in power and isn’t the popular leader anymore. His just another tyrant who disrespect his population, again and again.
In the end he ends with this nonsense: “The important thing is to maintain peace so that any dialogue is peaceful and meaningful. If anybody tries to disrupt our peace, we shall deal with them decisively” (Museveni, 16.01.2021).
A man who chooses the gun and use lethal means to settle the score. He speaks of dialogue, but that is the same man detains, torture and kills his enemies. It sort of hard to have dialogue when you using vile force. Your the sort of man who only uses dialogue to find the ones who can be compromised and paid-off. Not, using dialogue to build a broader platform or fight the injustice. An injustice, which is promoted and embedded in this government.
Again, he ends with a warning. That is directed at the opposition. The ones scorn and beaten by the authorities. They have no legal remedies or place to settle grievances. The state only assaults them and violates their rights as citizens. So, if they do riot or demonstrate. The state will answer with fierce and lethal force. Therefore, there is no way this can end well. Peace.
