Opinion: Museveni, Meal-Ticket Politicians is your “invention” …

Politics is working for the people, to get them out of poverty and solve their problems, not to escape poverty for your own self” – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (10.09.2020)

That someone who has rebuilt and remade the political system, the one who has made the new constitution and signed off laws, which has commercialized politics. This being the price of party nominations and the price to pay for nomination forms to the Electoral Commission. Together with the hefty salaries, allowances and perks in-office. The ability to spend the fortunes comes with the opportunities of getting in office after paying back the fees to stand as a flag-bearer.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) and all their leaders have made this system. Ever since the Constitution of 1995 and the laws for elections that has been made with deliberate action. The NRM knows this and the President knows this too.

That’s why his a bit delusional when he says this:

The main reason why people are fighting hard to go to Parliament is because MPs increased their salary. They earn more than scientists and many other important people to our country. I tried telling them not to do it but they insisted. Now, people want to leave their other work to go to Parliament and earn much. Yet, their motivation should be to serve their people rather than earn from Parliament” (Museveni, 10.09.2020).

Because, the President knows about the rise of salaries and allowances within the Parliament and for the Representatives. The NRM have promoted this and made it more profitable to become an MP. They are getting suits, cars, salaries and allowances, which are really making people millionaires over night.

The President knows this very well. Museveni have made this all happen. While endorsing it and knowingly that the cronies have gotten the wealth. The men loyal to him would get a pay-off and kick-backs from the state. That is why the ideal to run for office isn’t all about the representation, but getting rich. This is not strange, as the MPs and candidates has to spend massive amount of money to able to get in office. That has to later be repaid … and therefore, the knowledge of the costs and the needs to get covered after the campaigns.

So, initially the President is saying the rights things, but his actions has made this system. That is why I am not so forgiving. He has promoted and built this regime. That has all benefited him and his associates. If it wasn’t so, this wouldn’t be like this. The whole system and policies have been enacted within the reach of this Presidency. This wasn’t relics of previous regimes, but his own.

President Museveni can be right, but is terribly wrong at the same time. If he was against it. Why didn’t he act upon it? Well, he wants loyal allies and the easiest way is to pay them off, instead of giving them credit. The President, if he didn’t want this to become like this. He wouldn’t have supported, helped and built the system up this way.

That’s why these statements made by him is hypocrisy… however, that is his M.O. these days. Sounds correct, but acts a fool. Hoping nobody catches his game. Peace.

Opinion: NEC & ZEC is just rigging it for CCM

The way things are going, the way the authorities, the state bodies are operating. They are just tools of engagement for the Chama Cha Mapundzi (CCM) and the President Joseph Magufuli to have total control ahead of the October Elections.

Now, there is reports, which isn’t shocking anyone knowing how things are playing out. That the CHADEMA and ACT Wazenlendo are having barred candidates for the Parliament in the National Electoral Commission (NEC) and the same by the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC). This is done in a fashion and in a way to secure the majority before the polls even starting.

Meaning, the election is rigged before a ballot is dropped. The majority is secured. The CCM and their allies are already ahead. As the two main opposition are barred from attending being on the ballots and having ability to field candidates in the races. This means the CCM will have control of the National Assembly and the one in Zanzibar.

That’s why the One-Party State is in full effect. Where the opposition is already marginalized and rigid controlled by lots of laws, stipulated provisions and so fourth. Making it nearly impossible to be organized, also ability to build parties and hold internal operations. Still, with that they have had the opportunity and manpower to field candidates across a broad spectrum. While the NEC and ZEC finds it easy to disqualify and make them illegible to participate as a candidate in the up-coming elections.

The same would not happen on a large scale for the CCM. Which is steadily moving ahead with all control and ensuring safety for a new majority. They don’t even have to work for it. The state is securing it and there will be no issues. The opposition have to battle to run for seat before even properly campaigning. That is how sinister this is. You are losing before your really playing.

This is just an example in a long line of grievances. Where the state reach and control is going into bonkers territory. Where the CCM and the President can suspend, stop and silence the ones who are in their way. They access and limits civic space, they silence the press and media, so that only their perspective is coming out.

That’s why from the get-go, these elections are neither free nor fair. That was deliberate by the authorities, by the ones in power and the President is blessing it all with his presence. He sure must be proud. Winning by participating, not by love or by his achievements. His just winning because he owns it and he runs it.

If you wonder, there is no heart in this. It is just a facade and a game, where the rules are set and the winners are awaiting their price. The tallies, the polls and the ballots are pre-fixed. There is no guessing, hope and the winner will proclaimed, but not celebrated. Everyone knew who would win and there was no other option.

The state has already fixed that, the rest are just pawns waiting to get played. Peace.

Opinion: Is the DP dying since they cannot field candidates internally? [Mayoral Aspirant of Kampala]

As of today, the Democratic Party under Party President Norbert Mao has fielded an “independent” candidate on the DP ticket. This is happening for various of reasons. The DP as a party have lost vital members, leaders and lawmakers to other parties. The boat is leaking and there is no intent of stopping the leakage, apparently.

Mao has chosen a person who launched her own campaign back on the 22nd July 2020, Beatrice Kayanja to run as the DP Lord Mayoral Flag-bearer for Kampala in the 2021 General Elections. That is fine in itself. Her acumen as a businesswoman and entrepreneur speaks for herself. Her role as an activist for development and leading a conference to bring business to Uganda speaks for herself. Alas, Beatrice as the person isn’t the issue.

It is the supposed grassroot mobilisation. The party structure and the lack of potential new leaders, which should worry. As the man has dissolved the DP Block, the coalition ahead of the General Election. As it didn’t get the spark and the needed juice to become a TDA or IPC. It just became “hot-air” and got forgotten.

It must be a reason, why the party are picking out a person who has been vocal online and in social media. A person who has already retained her own aspiration for the Lord Mayor and would stand alone doing it. The DP must really be weak to do this. That they cannot find anyone of their members, inside the party and within the DP Kampala to stand as the Lord Mayor.

That is how it seems. Since, they we’re already pushing Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone as the Lord Mayor, but he ditched the party for NUP. Their previous and incumbent Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has gone to the FDC. Therefore, the two big-shots, the ones who has a big platform and would be recognized would not stand as the Flag-Bearer this time around.

The fallout of Chameleone must really hurt Mao. As he offered appointments and political capital to him before he went to NUP. It was just the ambition and the meal-ticket politician who left DP for NUP. That wasn’t shocking, but shows that even Mao’s offerings wasn’t that sweet. If it was, a man like Jose would stick around.

You can wonder, why does the oldest party of the Republic got to pick a random candidate of their own? If their was picking outside their own party, why not start negotiations with Nabilah Naggay Sempala, the Woman MP for Kampala? She cannot stand as MP and have been blocked from the FDC. She has a name and is well-known, why go for Beatrice?

That is why the DP is weak. The decisions seems to be short-sighted at best. Yes, it is better to field someone like Sempala MP. If they are believing in the race and wants to invest in it. Use a familiar face and re-issue her as a priced deflector. That would be a bet and show some political game. Not that Sempala MP has any positive reputation and is another one of those who does what it takes during campaigning, but is never seen after the elections. Still, she would have some character into the mix. Not sure what Kayanja will do…

It only shows that the DP doesn’t trust their own and doesn’t promote their own. At least not to the positions that counts. The ones with prestige and honour. There they need the names, the shiny diamonds and the ones who can spark interest. Instead, of considering using own machinery and vet their own. It might have failed in the first run, maybe even in the second. But, when a man or woman campaigns enough and proves their pedigree to the public. They could easily get elected, as they know this activist and this politician isn’t all talk, but actual game too…

Mao seems to have forgotten that and wants to do the quick fix. His fielding someone new. Someone who hasn’t the grand stand, his fielding an “independent” as his own and apparently deliberately so. He has picked a quick fix, gotten Kayanja’s blessing and a agreement to make it happen. Before they did launch it and now made it official. Still, it’s more a gain for Kayanja, than it is for DP. It just makes DP look weak and lack of internal candidates to back-up the needs of the party. Since, they had to pick someone from the outside again to be fielded.

It was first Jose and now Beatrice. Who knows how they fix others, but this is surely not from a place of strength, but of weakness. Peace.
