Opinion: Nagenda’s non-vision for a successor for Museveni

Today, on NBS Morning Breeze, Senior Presidential Advisor on Media, John Nagenda had a interview and however you might feel. It sends the signals that is within the National Resistance Movement and the NRA historicals. As Nagenda has been outspoken before, but this time his the loyal patron his supposed to be.

I will break it down, what he said, because someone got too.

Just look at this:

“Do you envision a post-Museveni era? Nagenda: There must be one. I haven’t seen anybody who cares about Uganda the way he does. He has got a very high opinion of himself but when I look at the people running to take over, some of them can’t run a country. I like Norbert Mao. Besigye has had his chance four times but he hasn’t been chosen. I don’t rate Mugisha Muntu because he is very excitable, I don’t think he can run a country” (…) “I’m amazed at how President Museveni leads the country. The older he gets, the more I like him. When he wins in 2021, which he will do easily, we shall then think of who will take over. He is a very special person” (…) “I’d like President Museveni to groom someone democratically for the job of the presidency. However, It is very difficult to think of somebody else when you have someone like Museveni” (NBS Television, 24.10.2019).

It is very special, that someone who has reigned non-stop since 1986 haven’t had the time to groom someone or having anyone to take over. That is 33 years and counting. The Senior Presidential Advisor expect the old man with the hat to go on a walkover, which isn’t weird since his puppets in the Electoral Commission will configure the stats to let him win like always.

Therefore, in this regard. We are really seeing a loyal man, who is a die-hard. Who’s so blind by the vision and the meal-ticket, that he doesn’t see anyone else rule Post-Museveni. No one who he mentions is good enough. Nevertheless, for a supposed good leader, shouldn’t he aspire for more and better leaders after himself? That is real leadership, not just retain the post and overstay on it.

It is not weird that the Nagenda likes the President more with age, because he has to do less, while still getting paid. The Senior Advisor getting easily of the hook and can bounce on Ofowno and Mwenda to do his bidding.

We couldn’t expect a loyalist like this to ever say anyone else has the capacity, the wit or tenacity to actually reign. Because, if he did, he would get into trouble with the one whose feeding him. He cannot do that and isn’t that stupid.

It is really rich, that a man ruling for over three decades should suddenly groom somebody after ruling for possibly 40 years in 2026. When his eight term is over. That is just outrageous, but still in the vision of the President himself.

It is like Nagenda has a man-crush on Museveni. He won’t say that, but the way he talks about him. It isn’t far off. Well, enough nonsense for today. Peace.
