CORD Statement on the IEBC (10.06.2016)

Cord 10.06.2016

10th June 2016,

Over the last three days, we have had, indirectly, positive and fruitful engagements with the Jubilee administration in which the religious faiths, the diplomatic community and business leaders have played a constructive role.

These engagements have not collapsed. From our standpoint we believe that seventy per cent of the sticking points have been agreed upon including the size of the committee, the independence of the committee, timelines and the subject matter.

However we need to conclude discussions on the question whether or not the committee could be subject to the standing orders of Parliament and controlled by the legislature in terms of secretarial services.

We believe the questions affecting IEBC are leadership and integrity challenges and management issues that must be addressed at a political level before the legislative processes are assumed by Parliament at the appropriate stage.

Political will and good faith must be exhibited by all parties and a conducive and enabling environment created. The talks and dialogue will be as good as they start as when they end. We recognise the steps made by Jubilee so far, but they are not enough for purposes of ensuring that success in reforming the IEBC is guaranteed.

As CORD, we hold no cards under the table. Our commitment and objective is limited to resolving the IEBC crisis and ensuring that the people of Kenya can have, as of right, free, fair, transparent, credible, verifiable, peaceful and accountable elections in 2017 and beyond.

Cord 10.06.2016 P2

In the meantime, our programmes for demonstrations are still in place for Monday and Thursday next week. But we are quick to point out that demonstrations are not an end in themselves and once we have an agreement and pathway to reform IEBC, they will not be necessary.

We note that the President on one hand, and Cabinet Secretary Nkaissery and the Inspector General on the other hand, have different and conflicting views and understanding on the right to peaceably assemble and to demonstrate. That internal contradiction among themselves must be resolved in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya which is clear and without a doubt.

We remain keen to see that peace prevails and the unity of the nation maintained.
Signed.

Throwback Clip: “Treason test: State has hard test to prove” (19.10.2011)

“What does it mean to face a treason charge? And does taking part in the walk-to-work protests amount to plotting to overthrow the government? And what are the chances that the suspects will be convicted?” (NTV Uganda, 2011).

My 2 Cents:

Instead of Walking to Work, it is now “Defiance”, but the same actions, just more vicious. The Internet doesn’t forget. Remember that! Peace.

“Nakawa MP Michael Kabaziguruka released on police bond, under house arrest at his Luzira home” (NBS TV Uganda, 10.06.2016).

Darius 09.06.2016

As much as also Darius Tweyambe, the Rukungiri Campaign director for FDC has been harassed by the Police Force of late. There been Kifesi gang that has tried to get rid of him. The regime has escalated the violence against the FDC.

Hon Moses 09.06.2016

Erias Lukwago Statement:

“This afternoon, Hon. Moses Kasibante and I moved to the home of Hon. Michael Kabaziguruka at Lake View village Luzira, to witness a Police search. It was obvious that the police were on a fishing expedition, in a futile attempt to link him to subversion. They have now whisked him back to SIU Kireka, without any formal charge being preferred against him” (Lukwago, 09.05.2016).

FDC 10.06.2016 P1

Just as this is happening the Forum for Democratic Change Headquarters in Najjankumbi in Kampala have been yet again besieged by the Police. The Police are working hard to manufacturing evidence of conspiracy as they are responsible for insurgency in Uganda.

FDC 10.06.2016 P2
” According to the Uganda Police: “FDC has a 3D printer that prints guns”, is this the 3D Printer, the one pictured from FDC HQ?

I am sure that CP Fred Enaga or ACP Polly Namaye are soon coming out with a statement that they had intelligence for some serious danger of national security and that there were persons involved in the party that are involved in possible crimes against the state. What the Ugandan Government isn’t saying that they fear the FDC Radicals and the FDC men behind Dr. Kizza Besigye, who knows how the Republic of Uganda, got stolen again from President Museveni. Therefore they are oppressive from the ones they stole it from, as they know that the Police under IGP Kale Kayihura is working for the National Resistance Movement. And they don’t do this to much of the others as they doesn’t have the same assertiveness behind their cause and justified the means of questioning the General Election of 2016. Peace.

Is this the level of impunity from the Police:
