A Man of many firsts ..’IK’ Lawmaker speaks about his Journey to Parliament (Youtube-Clip)

“In July 2015, Parliament passed a resolution creating 65 counties and these would have representation in Parliament. So the number of MPs rose from 382 to 458 but currently, there are 427 MPs. Among the new counties is Ik county that has 13,000 people.  The Ik are a minority ethnic group living in the mountains of Kaabong district in Karamoja sub-region, north eastern Uganda. The community has borne the brunt of conflict, cattle raids, hunger famine and also grapples with poor basic services like schools and hospitals. In the first of a five part series on the Ik people, our reporter Sheila Nduhukire takes a 14 hour bus trip from Kampala to the land of the Ik alongside the first Ik MP Hillary Lokwang” (Sheila Nduhukire, 2016)
